Its winter in Europe and I like a chicken on the braai so instead of breaking out the Weber we go to the local Portuguese takeaway for a flame grilled Kip (Dutch for chicken) once a week €12.00, whole fresh Kip directly from the farmer at the weekly village market €6.00
Oh how I miss SA butchers. Dutch butchers don't use English cuts and they see fat as the enemy so all meat in the butchers is lean. Anyone have a good recipe for drywors? In NL beef sausage is a rarity the locals preferring the piggy. My local butcher has agreed to make me some wors but only if I order at least 8kg so I want to get it right.
Why I didn't cycle yesterday!
While I was driving my daughter to school 3 boys on bikes in front of me just suddenly stopped took an unnatural left and slammed into a wall. It was crazy.
Getting my parents to bring me over some Luv when they are on holiday. I go through ESI like toilet paper, and that stuff is expensive. Also I should probably learn how to ride properly.
Last week in the Hague

mava where are you based?
based on your handle I assume you're an ex durban boy -when did you leave SA?
Left for a "holiday" in March last year, but officially left at the end of May last year.
I thought I would get the bike in as well this time. Finally a warm spring day in the Netherlands

If you haven't done it and are there for a bit more ensure you go to the Keukenhof at Lisse. Normally in early to mid May. It just makes any other flower show in the world look like a stable in comparison. What a marvelous time to be in Cheese Land. I remember as a lightie flying in with my folks and when landing during flower season I was convinced that someone had painted the country different colours - it was that dramatic
We are planning to do just that. It's school holidays here so the little ones need to be entertained. Fun fact about the tulips, the ones in my photos are all going into the compost. The farmers around here are all bulb farmers so they cut the flowers off just before they open so that the bulbs can multiply. I will try to get some snaps of the pretty compost heaps as well.
It stopped raining just long enough for some more tulip spotting today

Mt Hutt is pretty good for newbies and the last time I went the facilities were great. One tip, make sure you have snow chains on your wheels. You can normally hire them in town from one of the ski shops. I went up there once without and ended up sliding my car into a snow bank. When I eventually got up the mountain a Kea decided to eat all my wipers. Crap day driving but an amazing day snowboarding.
This thread really makes me miss NZ.
I decided to go do some tulip scouting yesterday afternoon. It seems the pink ones are the only ones in bloom at the moment.
Haha, when I lived in NZ I had a Legacy wagon. Jap import, it was cheap and was scary fast. We drove the South Island flat in that thing, no roof rack though we just threw the bikes in the back. Good times.
Oh well I guess it's the Trans Alps for me then in 2017. The Epic will just have to stay my white whale.
I have been riding with Ground Control front and back for about 10 months and I still love them.
I've just done my first 2 rides since having a cold, and I'm going to suffer a bit. I've lost a wee bit of fitness....
What about that 64Km you did on Saturday?

When the weather is crap I brew beer. Right now I have a Belgian Blond 8%, Pale Ale 5% and a Dark Mild 3.5% in kegs, a Munch Helles ~5% in the fermenter and planning to brew an oatmeal stout on Sunday. You could say it's my creative outlet
