  1. Can't say about the 3x10. I am still a 3x9 man. I tried a 2 blade (26/38) set up with a 34 cassette on the 3 towers stage race in October (ja I know this is a 10 speed topic). That gave me 18 gears. More than enough. BUT i missed that 32 middle ring so much. I can fling the chain just about anywhere on the cassette. The other thing that Eldron noted is the big drop from the big to the small ring. This takes getting used to. So I am back on my 3x9 for the Sabie X. I love my 32 middle ring. Overlap in gears or not.
  2. Maybe this is not what you want to hear, but what is wrong with the stock wheels? Why not just convert them?
  3. The stickers come off.
  4. Go for the better fork.
  5. If you don't have money to burn, go for low fat milk and Nesquik. Or ow fat yogurt. Milk has proteins, fats, calcium and fluid. The Nesguik/Milo will give you some carbs. And you can make it as sweet as you like. I do not believe in coughing up R400 for 1kg of dust that tastes like vomit (read Epic pro) If you do have the $$$, the sky is the limit.
  6. Not really. The limbs of compound bows are made of CF and they bend a lot. A pipe structure like a seatpost show very little flex, unless you modify the pipe like those Cannondale seatposts. An alu KCNC post weighs around 150 grams. An EC 70 around 220 grams. Thomson Elite around 300 grams. Expect the lighter alu posts to be more fragile. Stay away from single bolt designs. Your credit card will feel the biggest difference.
  7. Lees die nuwe verbruikerswet. Die invoerder ook.
  8. Mixed feelings here. The good: Poor guy just sharing his bad fortune. As a warning to others. The bad: I would like to see more and better pictures. The ugly: Why the secrecy about the source and "name" of the frame? If you want to warn people, NAME the danger. As we all know, not all unbranded stuff is rubbish.
  9. Let's see: Gluttony, pride, lust, envy, wrath, greed, sloth, bar ends on riser bars. Nope, you are ok.
  10. Good answer.
  11. What? 21 and you even consider FS? My partner in 2010 did it on a 26" hardtail. She is thirty something.
  12. Buy. To give you an example. I recently bought a (new bike old model) 2010 model Felt Elite plasti.. no sorry carbon hardtail. Gruppo was a 9 speed full SLX. Even the hubs. With Mavic 317 rims, Reba fork and tubeless ready tires. The price tag was R14400. Now let me see how you build up a new 11 kg. bike like that. Fork R3300 (CWC) Wheels? That set would cost around R2300 from CRC. Tires +-R800 Gruppo +- R4000 Bar, stem, post R900 if you go Ritchie Comp level. A new saddle? At least R550 Unbranded frame from thehubsa at R5900. Not painted. (? head set incl?) Tubes, spacers, cables, grips R400 if you go for easy on the pocket stuff. And all kinds of other thingies. And then you still have to build it up. More than R18000. The best option is to look for a good used bike.
  13. Hmmm. But my bakkie tires are pumped 2.2 bar and the ust bead usually only seats properly at about 2.5bar. Interesting idea though. Maybe for those Marie biscuit spare tires pumped at 4 bar. But then again you might need more volume.
  14. 150 grams is the difference between two identical alloy frames "off the shelf" in that price bracket. So to state that the new frame weighs 150 grams less is pure marketing. I bought 2 WTB Laserdisc XC rims a while ago. Advertised as 425-440 grams/rim on the website.http://www.wtb.com/products/wheels/rims/xc/laserdiscxc/ They weighed in at 497 and 499 respectively. I built them up anyway. They turned out to make excellent wheels. You will notice that combined these are 150 grams off the manufacturers claim. And all this in a wheel. Lo and behold! In what way is seeing marketing ploys rude? Whatever.
  15. 150 grams... So are you always influenced by the marketing people?
  16. The only thing that got me to go faster was intensity.
  17. The reservoir tank must be bigger than your tire. A small R1200 (25-50 liter) model is ok.
  18. The new one has zero identity. Boring. Not sure why change. Maybe somebody bought into the company for 10 gizillion? Or maybe mr Vermaak sold out? Or fell on his head? Who knows.
  19. One moot question. I am glad I am not that SID. Pumped to 200 psi, handling 110 kg. Why not go for a more robust fork? I am 75 kg and prefer a Reba.
  20. Hmmm. One of my friends was in hospital with concussion after his dog passed the tree on the right side while he attempted to pass the tree on the left side. The leash was tied to his bike,
  21. Some of us prefer to ride our bikes. I paid for it. Not to push it, but to ride it. Like Eldon said. Maybe some of you should get out there. Do stuff like the 3 Towers and the Sabie X. See how tough you feel at the end of day 3. During the 3 Towers this past weekend we passed 2 guys (one team) on the Rooiwal climb. Same bikes. The one with the 3 rings was still going, but the ysterman with the 2 rings was pushing...
  22. Look at this discussion. https://community.bikehub.co.za/topic/104525-heart-rate-and-the-science-or-lack-theiroff/page__hl__zones I do not use the zones. Just the value given. I know where I want to be.
  23. I will only "lock out" if I am standing. I had a remote unit on my Reba, but removed it and got one that sits on the fork. I needed more space on the handle bar.
  24. Not silicone. Latex. It happens. One of the nasties of tubeless and sealant.
