  1. Mine are a medium grey, but there are a lot of accent walls in everything from sky blue to deep teal. Colour can really change a space so I just let my wife decide what needed to go where, she is a fine artist so colour is her thing.
  2. Yeah, it wasnt something we wanted to do, but it saved a LOT of money in the end. Im also fairly handy so I just really wanted them to do the basics, cupboards/kitchen etc was always going to be on me to build.
  3. Yeah ordinarily that would be the case, with my build I borrowed my brother in law's crew as he is a building contractor, so I got materials to site etc and paid his guys. I bought DAS cornice and adhesives which the finish carpenters put up, but then they had to move on to another job. I had to fight with the manufacturer who eventually just replaced the adhesive and werent willing to do more. As a side note, 2 years on and the cornices are starting to pull away again in some areas. I try not to look at them because I get super annoyed, but I will have to do something again soon.
  4. Interesting that the cornice is made from wood, in SA its mostly polystyrene these days. When I built my house about 2 years ago there was a defect in the adhesive and EVERY SINGLE cornice fell down a few days later. I couldnt get the contractor back for a few weeks and had flooring people arriving later that week with the walls all needing to be painted before then. So I had to put up an entire house worth of cornice, I hate the damn things!!!
  5. I dont like mitre saws for framing applications, they arent accurate enough for me. I instead use a picture framing sled on my table saw, the included angles always match up and the joints are always tight. I think it took me around 30 mins to make that last sled, its not pretty but it does an amazing job. My wife is an artist so Im forever making frames for her work and its quick and easy.
  6. I generally dont like meat substitutes but Fry's arent too bad. Their bigboy burgers and boerewors are both pretty good for when you are craving a boerie roll or hamburger. But yeah their products are mostly good for people who arent good with flavour or havent got past the idea of having to have some "meat" with each meal.
  7. "We just wanted to make some planes, now we are bloody businessmen!" That really sums up who those guys are, seem like a bunch of legends to me.
  8. Matt Estlea on youtube swears by it for working counter tops and has been using it for a long time. Its a really great product based on reviews. Rudio is probably a little harder wearing being more of an epoxy than a hard oil but Osmo is much easier to apply and very easy to refresh if needed.
  9. This is what you want: https://www.toolcraft.co.za/collections/osmo-wood-finishes
  10. Technically, beer is made from malted barley and or corn. The hops are there as a bittering or flavouring addition in the boil cycle and dry hopping. So yeah its all vegan.
  11. Im a pretty heavy overpronator so all of my shoes end up on the heavy side as a result. Im also a fairly big built guy so any extra cushioning is a good thing on the long runs. I find I can run in pretty much anything up to 10km but after that I need shoes that agree with my feet! I heard the Hokas are also quite narrow, did you find that at all? similar size to your other brand shoes?
  12. Does anyone run in Hoka's? I have been looking at them for ages and always end up going with the old faithful Asics. Maybe its the clown shoe factor? I love the idea of good cushioning for the longer runs.
  13. Be careful of carrying other fitness into running, its a recipe for injuries. You should stick to your own advice of taking it easy to avoid injuries. With most people starting running there is a lack of base fitness and that limits your distances initially. People carrying other fitness dont have that an end up running too far, too soon and getting injured. Running is awesome though, there are so many races to keep you busy.
  14. Gman! its good to see you posting on here again, its been a while. Sorry to hear about your injury. But yeah perfect example of where an ebike is a good fit and still allows someone to cycle.
  15. Man that machine that uses instant coffee but looks like a decent machine caused me a lot of sadness. I was in PE last week, was craving some good coffee really badly. Go down to breakfast and its just this big machine with some buttons that is available. Needless to say I took one sip of the warm brown that came out(it wasnt coffee) and that was my day ruined!
  16. Nice mate, that Makita is a good quality saw. Its pretty much between that and the Bosch in SA. There is a Saffa on youtube that has one built into a very multi-function workbench and he loves it. *edit* I forgot to mention, the jigs are really what make these saws useful. I have a bunch of sleds from crosscut to wedgie and they make any saw a lot more useful. Heck even the no name brand saw I picked up 2nd hand for R600 is dead on accurate with the sleds.
  17. 23 more posts and it becomes a nice round number... https://xkcd.com/1000/
  18. How long have you had this thread bookmarked for this occasion?
  19. Wow that is rough Hayley, I hope he is going to make a full recovery. It shows though how quickly something like this can happen. The hospital thing has been standard in SA for over a year now, you go in alone and there are no visitors allowed.
  20. I have those yellow ones but I think Im going to print some more, handy things to have.
  21. Those Alexandria trails are amazing. Most years I do the trail run which is really the 2 day hiking trail. There is something really special about those sandstone cliffs and its quite a fun climb up to the overnight stop.
  22. Pretty much the same thing I tell people when they talk about all of the beauty of Africa. Its pointless if you cant safely enjoy it.
