  1. Due to my inability to try hard in my studies, I find it a mountain too high to read this entire thread.

What is really making me angry at the moment is the inability of people to respond to adverisments that they have posted.

Eg: I am looking for a set of rollers. I have responded to three advertisments. Two read my pm but did not respond at all. One did, three days after reading my pm. Bloke from Cape Town, I pm'ed him that I was interested in his rollers for sale. I was willing to transfer the funds at once and request the bank to make the funds available at once. I would then arrange with a friend in CT to collect at the sellers nearest convienience so that he would not have to bother with sending. Three days later received a pm from the seller. "cash only". Not a hello nothing. Just cash only.I come from the Free State, we have manners here, we greet each other here and if it is a pretty lady, we greet with a kiss.

So here is how I see it. The Hub is a family. Like a family, we fight sometimes we stick together more often than not.. Each of these sellers had zero posts on the hub. A further investigation showed the items were also listed on Gumtree and OLX.

So, these people are using our site to sell their crap. They are making no contribution at all to the site.

I say, make them pay for the service. On Gumtree and OLX they are offering cycling related goods to the general public. Here you are offering cycling related goods to cyclists. A service that you should pay for IMO.

It will also make Dr Zingo stop trying to sell his crap that will make your lost lover return or make you win the lottery from advertising here. The Dr doest like paying for advertisments.

  2. Hi all

Did my first ride at Buffelsdrift on Saturday and as expected I had lots of fun.

Half way in on the Buffel however things got a little more serious when I ignorantly chose the ‘Route 1 Black’ section with the pointy picture on it. At first it was fun but then I had to go down some pretty serious rocky sections, which I managed (thankfully) - but then came this stupid sheer drop rock face section where mountain goats do not dare to climb. Do you people ride down this stuff?

Give me some tips on how to approach that part please? I had to do a one foot-polka down there as I slipped and slid to the bottom. Might also be interesting to share your thoughts on other tricky sections and how best to tackle them?

are you referring to the Enduro lines on Maniac section? If so, there is a b-line that is easier than the a-line with no drop offs.

  3. I have been collecting parts for a few months for a new bike build early 2020 and wanted to boast about them later but this seems a good moment to show this off - that's out the box, uncut

That's for the step-cast. Factory and performance elite model weighs the same (both with FIT4 damper and only difference is Kashima).

Mine is the standard version and comes in at 1790g (120mm Reba was about 1660g)

That additional weight really doesn't bother me.

    Step-cast makes a big difference!

  4. The REBA is an XC fork, its not designed for absolute stiffness but rather to strike a balance between between cost, weight and performance. The Fox 34 is a trail fork and is substantially heavier by around 200gr. A lot of the extra stiffness comes from the heavier lowers.

Which year model REBA did you have vs the Fox you replaced it with?

But since you're on the heavier side the trail designed forks will always support you a littel better than a lightweight XC fork.

2015 Reba replaced with 2018 FOX

Still need to put the Reba up for sale at some point.

  5. Went from a 120mm Reba to 120mm FOX Float 34 (performance elite model which is the same as factory sans Kashima).

Main reason was looking for stiffness but coming from a FOX before the Reba, also yearning for the plushness I had with the initial FOX - just couldn't get the Reba as smooth as the FOX... especially on small stuff.

I am a heavy rider so the 34mm stanchions made quite a difference in stiffness. The FOX 34 is also Boost, which may have added to rigidity, but not too sure about that.

The Reba is a great fork, but in 120mm guise not a good option for heavy riders looking for rigidity when riding the rough stuff IMO.

  6. I'm looking for some advice from you guys please.

I can't seem to get the idea out of my head that I want/need a Garmin training watch.

My heart has been set on a Fenix 5 Sapphire with HRM strap, but I just can't seem to commit myself to biting the bullet due to the price.

Recently I've been looking at the Garmin Forerunner 735XT Tri bundle and the Garmin Forerunner 935 Force Tri bundle.

Any Pro's & Cons to these watches?

They both seem to do a fantastic job, are a bit cheaper than the Fenix.

My first concern is the glass vs sapphire ito scratching - I'm rather prone to falling once in a while.

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated in making a decision.

Have a look at the Garmin Instinct. Looks to be positioned between Fenix and Vivoactive.

Also a nice review by DC Rainmaker, as always.

  7. I Boost converted my AM Classic Wide Lightning wheels with an AM classic boost converter set. Had to get the wheels dished. Works absolutely beautifully

Where did you get the converter?

I couldn't find one, about three months ago, and replaced the Wide Lightning with a Rapide boost hub. All good with the Rapide so far... but would have loved to keep the Wide Lightning (just to keep my OCD under control)

  8. I hope you get your bike back sir.

They tried to steal a Hilux from the parking lot at the Macsteel Carnival Classic this afternoon. Fortunately the vehicle was where the driver left it, but the ignition was in pieces.

I know of someone whose car / bakkie was stolen at that race yesterday. Looks like the crims had a busy day there yesterday.

  9. Make sure you have a good headlamp. The race village is far from your tent. So you typically ride you bike there and back. After dinner it’s very dark. You mostly next to the river to take bug spray. Absolutely have a power bank for your electronics.

One thing often forgotten is that most people drive to this race finish. So, you dont have to pack box style. Leave some stuff in your car which is easily accessible and keep the crap in your tent to a minimum.

Awesome race. Superb single track. Far less distance and climbing than Sani. Have fun.

Yoh... did not think of that and I am a mosquito magnet!
