So... doing my first B&B this year... In for the Great Trek.
Done a few Sani's before and decided to go for something else. Really looking forward to it and a little worried following the weekend's riding and coming to the realisation of how under-prepared I am. My partner is in relatively good shape so I'll be hanging on his wheel for most of the ride.
Any top tips / hints and advice for a B&B virgin?
Any particularly good sections (read: downhills)?
Updated the Anthem with some new suspension bits.
Kashima love for the rear and 34 Fox Performance Elite up front (120mm). In the words of Zohan: "silky smooth"
Also had to get the frontwheel rebuilt for boost - did this with a Rapide Ultralight Pro Boost hub.The boys at Sprocket & Jack did an excellent job with the wheel build!
Next is covering that silver crank and spider with black Rust-Oleum Flexidip.
Friend of mine just had one fitted two weeks ago to her '16 Enduro. Replaced RS Pike to match the Ohlins shock that was already on the bike.
Waited quite some time to get it to SA, and now this... Very bummed about it.
Fairly normal as far as I know. Just some assembly grease popping out. If there was a problem you would see a lot more coming out.
You should see little bit of greasy/oily stuff after each ride - just wipe it clean.
I'm sure some suspension gurus will confirm shortly...
Im in need of a new set of tires. The current ones are brittle and thin as a ballsack
80/20 road/gravel single track.
Currently riding a 26" hardtail with tubes as im not sure my wheels will handle tubeless all that well
Thanks in advance
I've been told that friars balsam will sort out that thin ballsack skin of yours.
Open position?
the "soft" setting
Nice one Uni, and here a lesson to all: NEVER overlook the fine-print...
yeah, but they're not in stock and they require re-dishing of the wheels.
...or a 5mm spacer on the rotor (I think).
Will shop around on the internet to see what is available, else it's new hub and wheel build time.
What a buddy of mine did was machined 2 5mm wide spacers, one to fit each side of the hub, and then got the 5mm disc spacer for the brakes. Not ideal, but it'll work.
Thanks Captain.
Ja, I saw some of those kits on ebay, but like you say; not ideal.
The spacers on the MRP website look to be for specific hubs (DT, Hope, Stans etc. but no AC on there).
Googling doesn't point me to anything for AC specific converting 100 to 110.
I am wondering if this will work?
https://amclassic.com/index.php/hub-parts/disc-130-hub-front-axle-kits-boost-15x110mm-thru-axle.html
So my Google skills seems to be failing me and only able to get to a bike shop over the weekend... hoping for some solid BikeHub advice till then.
Does anybody know of a way to fit standard AC Wide Lightning wheels (15x100) to a boost (15x110) fork?
Can you convert the existing hub in some way or are there adapters available AND does anyone have experience with this / tried it?
Have sadly also noticed the same on my runs and rides... the mountain bike fraternity has sadly and most definitely been infiltrated en masse by some other worldly snobbery I just can't quite comprehend.
Barry, maybe we should setup a regular Tuesday coffee the next few weeks with a base ball bat in tow for any Stravassholes trying to mow down our little ones?
I blame Specialized
Hah, looks like we are running the same strategy
me three...
Think it is the position of the promotional "Caravan" going out ahead of the riders to entertain the people along the road with free merchandise etc.
Ja that makes sense. Thanks!
After washing my singlespeed last night and inspecting my rear Flow rim....
Guess whats starting.
The bike in question...
2 of the cracks... there are 4
2600km done on them, bought in March 2017
ja nee kyk... dis net hier waar ek goed begin rondgooi
Last year I chose with my head and ended the tour with only 5 riders...
Also chopped and changed ad nauseam up until the start.
This year I'm playing with my heart and picks took all of 5 minutes.
Not really expecting a different result in terms of overall standings - let the games begin! Roll on 11h00...
It's not about affordability it's more about concept/principle
Just a thought - who washes the rider.
Also if you(I) forked out R50 even every 2nd ride that would add up to a pretty sum.
Btw Op has not been back since initial post
Jip
Same as walking into a room, asking for Joe Masepus and walking away. Never to return.

I don't see anything about charging points or stations so definitely pack a powerbank.
At Sani there are charging stations but if you have a good quality high mAh powerbank, you will be fine - for cellphone and gps that is...
