Its almost over, but welcome to 2024☺️ to be fair i also have a courier guy walk in store around the corner so have never needed to use the locker service. I don't feel the need to go ship or pick something up at 10pm. But thats basically the convenience of Pudo…you can ship and collect when you want, no need to wait for a courier to come pick up.

if im reading right and cassette has 14k km on it…the bottom two cogs are most likely finished, hence the skipping. Shimano sells theirs loose, since they are the first to go. You can eek some more life out of it with a dremel if you feel so inclined. But call it, 14k km is plenty. I’m a mixey-matchy heathen too, it works fine. I’ve run AXS on shimano casettes, XT on GX cassettes. Shifter needs to match to rear mech as noted above, chain, chainring(not critical) and cassette matched for best results. you can't use shimano 12s chains on SRAM kit. You can use Sram chains on shimano kit however.

Everything goes up a rating too when you go faster. Too easy? Too tame? Go faster. Jumps not big enough? Go faster. Thats Of course if the trail allows it. Sometimes they are built in a way that naturally limits the speed you can go. i’ll again use red phoenix as an example. Its difficulty is almost directly proportionate to your willingness to let go of your brakes haha. It can get scary and out of control real fast. Bloemslang…a blue trail, perfectly tame at cruising speeds. But if you’ve managed to go down there in anything under 3mins you’ll know how fast it feels and how much more risky it gets. i always chuckle when the vlogs come out and they question why there are ‘braking ruts’ on the fast bit….they aren't braking ruts mr trail builders haha. Thats what a assegai or whatever does flat out leaned over on its side knobs

Too many variables. So many ppl will claim getting 10 000+ out of a XX1 chain but im with @Ozzie NL, i manage about the same out of mine…around 4k of hard dirty mtbing km with regular cleaning. Then they hit 0.5. Conditions matter. Type of soil/dust, lube, cleaning, vertical climbing meters, weight, type of bike, type of riding, etc etc etc. Sure, you can say you got 15k km out of an entry level drivetrain but i guarantee you it was FUBAR 10k km ago and you just kept on riding it, that or you ride it on flat relatively clean surfaces. Which is fine, it’s your bike. Its better using all the worn parts together till they all die. Putting a new chain on worn everything else or visa versa will just make it all work worse. So if you commit to it, then fine. Csixx chainrings also only really work right up 5k km of hard mtbing. They communicate this on their site too. You can obviously keep using it till it looks like a @Rouxenator one and something out of a Saw movie 😁. Will it work as good as new? No. Will it keep going. Yes. Roady drivetrains last infinitely longer…obviously. i’ve killed SLX chains in 500km. The lower two cogs on shimano cassettes even faster. If killed XT and GX cassettes in about 5000km of mtb riding. Conversely, my drivetrain on my gravel bike never got replaced…it just kept going. (GRX 810, X01 chain with NX cassette) I have a vintage road bike with shimano 600 on it…god knows how many km that saw in its life, works perfectly. im currently testing Shimano Linkglide, XX1 chain and csixx chainring. Cheap as chips (comparatively). So far so good. Great performance, bullet proof. Im not particularly precious over it either. Basic maintenance only.

I read this and personally agree with how it is captured there. especially this part under double black: Not only are features challenging, but the result of making an error is far higher leading to a psychological element of riding trails at this level. Complete confidence in your riding ability is required on a double black trail. This is so so true. If a trail lives in your head rent free, you aren't ready to ride it well or consistently, and you need to be very cautious. I ride with people a lot more skilled than me and one of their biggest critiques of my riding is the fact that i don’t have confidence in my own ability yet. I've gone for skills training and i’ve leaned to ride things at my own pace over the past 3y. Ive surprised myself many times when they just force me to do things, but i still struggle with the mental bit. Like probably most of us, Ive been riding an xc MTB since i was 7y old, some road and gravel along the way..but only got into gravity riding around 2020. Growing up I always wanted to get into DH but my parents couldn't afford getting me a bike. i digress. Anyway, gravity riding is a different animal, especially once you start going faster. I’ve had some pretty bad falls along the way with consequences too, and that doesn't help with the head game. i can pretty much match my sendy friends on trails im super confident on. But i fear i’ve reached a point in my life where responsibilities mean i cant NOT think about consequences. Currently, my happy place are faster red trails. For some reason technical ‘speed’ bothers me less than technical ‘steepness’. Im comparatively fast on these types of trails and ride them with full commitment. Im getting there with the blacks we have, but some of them still make me think too much. Crazy how your head alone can my you so slow haha.

Anything on that trail is only big on a rigid hardtail😅. Still fun though, dont get me wrong, but i’d call that a red at most. Red phoenix before the recent maintenance was bordering black imo.

I’ll ride the pyga purely because its not a ‘cookie cutter’ bike. I hate having the same things as other people and thats also the reason why i like buying weird sh!t. That does of course come with its own baggage…but hey, if you want nice things right? Why drive a white corolla if you can drive something a bit more….exotic😊😁. just my opinion, based on 0 facts, formulated by emotion rather than critical thinking, with a healthy dose of validation bias too. both are nice bikes. I literally know 3 ppl who bought that full carbon slash for R50k in the last month…thats giving them away compared to full retail (R120k). The wheelset alone id worth 20k. Makes you wonder what the markup is lol…they for sure aren't selling them at a loss..or a very minor one if so. But all that means…there are 3 (x XXX) more in the wild. You’ll see everyone on them soon😅 PS, I built my wife a 2023 hyrax in raw alloy and if it weren't a medium (i ride XL’s)…i’d be riding that thing too. Such a nice bike.

Hitting the bottom, the one’s bike gooi’s a ‘blue screen of death’. Just doesnt want to boot up or reset….and all of them started pushing their 25kg lumps back up with the disabled one. I couldn't help myself as we merrily pedalled our amish bikes past all of them….” If only you rode bicycles I snickered”😊😅. ..Met with embarrassed laughter. Luckily they saw the humor in it. Probably the only time ill ever pass that many e-bikes up a hill.

I wont elaborate….but sometimes the rogue riders and ‘trail guides’ are indistinguishable 👀😅. Don’t be too quick to think its only those darn sendy kids or entitled ex golf players. Ive witnessed this first hand at trails I personally frequent. Healthy dose of rules for ‘us’ vs rules for ‘everyone else’….

Ive seen a few lycra clad snakes around these parts pedalling tigre’s. Even a single speed one. Im sure if you set out to build it light it wont weigh 14kg. My 140mm Banshee paradox HT is/was (currently boxed up) 14kg with SLX stuff, big rubber and flat pedals. Thats also not the lightest frame. Amazing feeling bike though with how they machined the rear to flex like steel. The frame feel will make up for the rest imo. Steel is great at muting trail chatter. Id rather have a 13kg steel bike thats comfortable, over a 10kg featherweight carbon/alloy one that beats the crap out of you on a 100km ride. As mentioned on here already…tigre is Munga proven so that alone tells me it has to be a comfy bike over long distances. Ive owned 4 boutique brand steel bikes and loved them all.

It’s def built like a tank then. My steel Cotic Rocket Max (XL) enduro bike…170mm, coil rear shock, heavy wheelset (2.5kg) on 1.2kg tyres weighed a hair over 16kg all in. Only carbon on that was the XX1 crankset. Hell, my current full retard carbon bike weighs more than that steel bike did. Steel does not equal heavy. Ive also come to realise with my enduro journey that heavier bikes ride better when it gets rough and steep. DH guys bolt lead to their BBs lol. Sure its a bit harder to get up to speed, but once it is…it wants to stay there. Clearly there will be a battle between your bike and the Earth…and your bike should win😅

Schwalbe Super Trail casings make maxxis EXO+ feel like toilet paper. You can run about 3-5 psi softer on the schwalbe casings…they are more like maxxis double downs. I run my maxxis set at 25F/28R and my Schwalbe set at 22F/24R. Then you get super gravity and super downhill on top of that! Magic Mary up front, Big betty in the rear is the assegai/dhr equivalent. The maxxis combo work well in the dry/hardpack. The magic mary destroys in when it gets a bit softer. In the wet its no contest. The Schwalbe performance line stuff you all picked up for 499 is a sportmans warehouse tyre. …Those things have no casing lol…basically a ribbed condom.

Race logistics too i guess. But something that always gets me about knysna is that it’s a ghost town on Sundays. Basically, nothing is open. For a town so reliant on tourism they really dont give a F….k about tapping into 2000k od tourists and their families on this weekend specifically. You’ve spent the whole day on a bike….finished probably one of the largest and well known annual sporting events for the area…..and everything is closed the afternoon/night you just want to sit and have a cold one and a nice meal with your family who you got to drive a 200km-return trip to drop you at the start. Once you leave that rugby field it’s like the race never happened. That was my lasting memory from 2019….not the extreme weather and anties in space blankets. Ive obviously been back there many times since and it always annoys me. The town really can do more. I want to spend money, support the local economy….but you need to come to the party and be open. I blame the seasonal migrating/foreign residents😅

Yep, i find groady fun rides like around-the-pots or karoo-to-coasts take a bit more doing than the CTCT as an example(for me). Also, when you can haul a 16kg enduro bike around 30km and 1000m of climbing every weekend….rolling road hills are a joke lol.
