  1. So a few weeks ago I bought new shoes from the sweat shop in Claremont. I kept rolling my ankle running in my Adidas trail running shoes. Since buying my stability shoes touch wood I've had no issues. My other half and I are doing two 6k runs and one 8k a week so hardly headed for Boston marahon glory but it's a start. She's been complaining about sore feet for the last few weeks so we headed off to the Sweatshop again for hopefully a new insole or something for her. The salesguy had her taped from the second we walked in. He stood her on that machine that measures your feet. Had her run up and down a bit and pulled out a pair of Rose Gold Asics Gel Nimbus for her to try on. SOLD! She's super happy and she had to wait 10 minutes for me on our 8k run on Saturday.
  2. Sorry for the uncomfortable question. How does one handle the mid run emergency bowel movement? With cycling it's generally not an issue coz you can pop in to a coffee shop. With running every single foot strike makes the problem worse until is simply cannot be ignored. During the week our little 6k efforts are fine coz you wake up and hit the road before the rest of your bdy wakes up and by the time usual bodily functions kick in you are back home.
  3. No. But that does look cool.
  4. I know something. And when the news of this local rider doing this really big thing breaks I would like all of you to know that I knew before all of you did. But I chose to withhold the information.
  5. So you enjoy spinning out on every bottom turn and getting sucked over the falls backwards? Surely there are more enjoyable ways of getting your sinuses flushed? Good analogy comparing a fish to a HT.

For sure. It would be obtuse to think that WSBK isn't built around Ducati. F1 is built around Ferrari and Moto GP built around Repsol Honda. God I love bike racing. Here's a question for the fans. What is for you the best all time performance in any bike sport? Bayliss vs Edwards at Imola? Rossi vs Stoner at Laguna? For me there's only one. James Stewart Toronto 2014. On that night JS made the very best supercross racers on the planet look so incredibly ordinary.
  7. I'd just go with what works for now. In my experience some of these platforms just seem to work better on certain operating systems. Rouvy worked fine on my android tv box. Bkool not so much and I couldn't even install zwift. On both of my laptops zwift couldn't connect to the bluetooth (actually a windows driver issue) without a dongle Zwift is a GREAT tool and you are going to get much fitter on it.
  8. I really enjoy Zwift. Yes it is a bit gamey but if you just embrace that it's fun. Collecting the bikes and kit etc. It's all very puerile but so what. Try signing up for a training plan. The FTP builder one is good (IMO) for building base. It starts out feeling a bit too easy but builds up nicely. You put the trainer in ERG mode and just do the work that it tells you to do. I tried Fulgaz yesterday and the power readings were way off and the footage was super juddery. This might be to do with my fibre line which seems to be a bit off at the moment. Plus I'm running it on my super low end laptop which is probably a bit light for Fulgaz. But for me it fits nicely between Rouvy and Zwift. Real footage with a teeni bit of gameification. I'm back on Rouvy for now but I'll probably jump between Rouvy ans Zwift for the foreseeable future.

The AMA supercross has been amazing with them racing in one stadium. Yes it's not as good as multiple stadiums but it's way better than watching Max Verstappen playing a gameboy in his lounge. I'm fine with them finishing the series in Spain. BTW. Dorna also own WSBK nowadays. The TT was supposed to happen last week. There's a great series on youtube at the moment called TT Lock in. Good insights from the stars and very well cobbled together old footage and doccies. I love the TT. My 3 favorite race bikes of all time are the SP1 that Joey rode in 2000, John's HM Plant Fireblade and John's TT Legends blade. I'm not a Honda fanboy at all.
  10. I battled for hours with Windows 10, BT and Zwift. HOURS!! A recent Windows update killed BT connections to certain 3rd party connections such as BT speakers and my smart trainer. This was the case on my work and private computer. An ANT dongle solved this.
  11. This sounds good. I must try this. I usually play am mtb or motocross vid when doing a workout.
  12. Yeah. I even made a few. What I enjoy about the Zwift training plans is that it kind of takes the guesswork out of it. Right now I'm just working through a bunch of climbs. I've fave'd a bunch of climbs and I'm ticking them off one by one. Heading into Summer I'll probably jump onto a Zwift 6 week plan. The nice thing is we aren't married to the various platforms so we can hop between them.
  13. I did my first ride on Rouvy yesterday after about 3 months of Zwifting. I don't know why but I find it "easier" to go hard on Rouvy. When I want a structured plan I'll jump back on to Zwift. But for now I'll stick to Rouvy.
  14. So the Rouvy AR app doesn't have workouts? Or am I missing something?
  15. Yes. Telling the thing your FTP number in a race doesn't matter. Watts per kilo do. So if you lie about your weight then suddenly you have a better power to weight ratio in the game. I don't really get the point of that tho. You're still in your study going nowhere. You still sweat like a motherf*&!@#. It's kind of like winning an argument on facebook.
  16. The hardware (computers, HRM's etc) is very often overlooked when it comes to these discussions. You should definitely not hassle with hardware issues. Sitting in your cycling kit troubleshooting why the app won't pick up your HRM is SUPER annoying. There are enough trainer options out there that will give you the flavor of pain you are looking for and work with the hardware you have. Rouvy (for me) worked well on my mygica box. Zwift absolutely did not. On my laptop Rouvy works well and Zwift works well but only after I bought an additional ANT dongle.
  17. Hey boss. How's the back doing? I can't comment on all 3 but I've used Zwift, Rouvy and RGT. I think if you're coming from a low base the training plans in Zwift are great. You just jump on the trainer and off you go. Remember you're not married to the thing so you can end your subscription at any time. I've spent the last 3 months on Zwift and really enjoyed it but I'm back on Rouvy now just for a bit of variety.
  18. My (rental) bike was supposed to be taking me up the Hautacam today. Sigh.
  19. Yeah. He gave me 3 other options to try but I went with the Asics in the end anyway. Just walking around in the shop I could feel a massive difference between those and the Adidas trail shoes. Those have now been retired to gym shoes. He also sold me some resistance bands and showed me some strengthening exercises I need to do to with the bands to get the area back to strength. I've been doing those daily. I'm loving this little toe dipping into running. My only regret is that I found it so late in life.
  20. First report back on the ASICS. I don't pretend to be anything approaching a competent runner but I could definitely feel a difference. I ran without my ankle brace and I could feel the improvement. Thanks for the advice. Also. The sweat shop in Claremont will definitely see me again. Oh and suikerbossie is hard. On feet or wheels.
  21. OK I bought those ASICS and some bands to strengthen the ligaments in my ankles. Let's see how we go tomorrow.
  22. My dad was the general manager of Metro Rail Cape Town for 2 years before he retired. I'm so happy that he's not around to see the mess. He worked for the railways his entire adult life. He was so proud of the Metro service in his day. Only for the Zuma's to raid his pension fund to pay for Dudu's fkups and the rail service to be sabotaged and looted from the outside and from within. “A developed country is not a place where the poor have cars. It's where the rich use public transportation.”― Gustavo Petro
  23. Yup. I went there on Saturday and they seemed determined to not take any of my money at all.
  24. Thanks so much. I definitely think I overpronate based on the pic and the wear of my shoes over the years. When I bought running shoes i basically went into the shop with a budget and bought a brand i recognized and a color I liked. The idea was to do the odd park run. I suppose much like the mistakes a newb cyclist would make. I'm going to buy those Asics shoes ASAP and see. I did a little 5k flat trundle this morning with an ankle brace on and that was fine but I'm not a fan of that type of thing. My thinking is that a brace will actually make the root cause of the problem worse.
