  1. Which is the better choice? The Axis A70 2014 model or the Axis A70 2015 model? I know the 2014 model is a 27-speed vs. the 2015 model which is only a 24-speed. Please help, as this is quite an urgent purchase. Kind regards Jaco
  2. Good morning hubbers, So I bought a bike in Dec 2015 from the classifieds section, and I couldn't be more happy with the bike I bought. I went to my local shop a week ago to find out about servicing/replacing the grip shift with a new one. To my understanding, they don't service them at all. This is due to the difficulty of getting parts for the service or replacement. Not sure if this might be because they are a small shop. I was advised by my local shop that changing to a decent SRAM X9 trigger shifter ( speaking under correction ) would cost about R800, which is not too bad in the long run as parts are available almost everywhere. Would it be better just to change from grip shift to trigger shift? Suggestions?
  3. Hi Hubbers and Hubbetes I need your advice please, so i decide to up my riding and get a newish frame after riding Scott for "jaare". so i purchased an Axis A80 from a fellow hubber, but now i am a bit stumped Axis and Scott are similar products, and i am moving most of my components over. The Axis says Headset: VP DROP IN/ PRESS FIT. Currently i have a Ritchey headset on the Scott and yes i am a NOOB when it comes to headsets, i have refurbished older bikes but building a newer one is "different". so would i need to replace the crown race on my forks or would i have to take the ritchey's off and onto the axis! Please help!! Thanks
  4. Hi, I'm looking to purchase the Raleigh Tri6000 with 105 group set. Not sure of the year of the bike but the price is good. Any advice on if this is a decent intermediate bike. Any help would be massively appreciated. Regards
  5. I am on the verge of buying a mongoose meteore team( from a folk who seems inept about mountain bikes judging from his responses to my questions). The bike is used so I am not sure which model year it is. I want to use the bike for trail riding and a bit of xc(if possible). It seems that it still has its original components. If there's anyone who currently owns this or have owned it, would you please kindly give technical info on the bike, original components, how it handles on trails and so forth. I suppose it's an old model(2008/9) and the components might be of entry level when compared to today's components. I also attached pictures for clarity.
  6. Looking at buying said lid. I do a lot of mixed riding, XCM and lately love doing technical sections such as Hakahana SP stages, Van Gaalen etc... Doing these at way more speed than my skills probably allow. Question is, is this worth it at R3500????
  7. Hi All I am sure this topic has been debated to death, but cant for the life of me track down a thread. With that said, I am looking for some advice regarding a bike I can use for 70.3 / Ironman and standard Olympic triathlons. I am not looking for a TT bike, but more a 'aero' bike with agents available in Cape Town. Thus far, I am considering the following 2: Scott Foil 20 Giant TCR Advanced 2 CompactBoth seem to be in the similar price range (20 - 24k) and offer similar aero frame designs. Perhaps any other bike I am not considering? Thanks in advance
  8. Hi guys, I'm visiting friends in No.California soon and am looking for the best MBK shops to visit, just in case. any ideas? thanks,Fede
  9. Ok, it's the question all newbies pose.... Please can I have your opinions about the Scott Aspect 930 (2014) http://www.vitalmtb.com/product/guide/Bikes,3/Scott/Aspect-930,13565#product-specs Rider type...woman, newbie, will mainly do leisure and a few pavements but if the bug bites.... Is a 29" good, bad or inconsequential for a girl newbie? After discount 6k? Your thoughts please
  10. Hi Hubbers I have been commuting for years now, started commuting to Wits from Crosby/Brixton. Now I commute to work which is in Forest Town. I use to use my MTB but now with work clothes I feel my MTB is not suitable anymore so I started using my road bike which is an old Trek 1000. I am thinking of transforming this bike into an urban/commuter bike. I know enough about bikes to do some of the changes, but I am looking for some advice. This is what I am thinking of doing: Change handlebars to a flat-bar (those really narrow ones)Change brake and gear levers (I want to keep my gears, I need them )Change tyres to cyclocross or something with more grip, but keep my road bike rims - possible? Chain cover - save my work pants from awesome grease marksSeat, something that suits the bike more. That's about it. Has anyone done something like this? I want to spend minimal so keep that in mind.
  11. Good Friday morning everyone I am thinking of applying for a personal loan to treat myself to my dream frame. I will only have to borrow R35 000 and I can pay it off in 18 months. I would like to ask you hubbers that has done this, where would I get the best deal? I can buy the frameset with my savings, but I think I'd rather pay a bit more and spread it out. Thanx in advance!
  12. Ride mostly tokia, jonkershoek... Started doing xc events, which bike suited for both? Can only have one bike!
  13. I'm not a brand person. Simply want the best value. Change my frame every 4 - 5 years, and my Raleigh RC6000C is getting a bit flexy now after 4 years, so time to look at something new. Mileage per week: 150 - 250 km on my bike (depending on the time of the year). 02h55 94.7 and 03h20 Argus. Currently have Ultegra groupset, Easton EA50 Aero wheelset. Trek Madone 3.1: - Lifetime warranty - 1.2 kg (frame only) - UCI approved Edge Design Airy SL (see classifieds under Road Frames for more details): - 2 year warranty - 0.85 g (frame only) - UCI approved. The other alternative is to go 2nd hand, but have been burnt before with a used carbon frame (so would prefer new).
  14. Hi Everyone I am currently looking for advise on a road bike. I am first timer to cycling and want advise on the size of the bike I need. I am 1.94m tall so what would be the ideal length size for me and what's a good start bike. I have a tight budget so what must I look for brand wise and price. Other thing is does anyone have a training programme I can follow as I would like to do 94.7 in November. I did my first spin class this morning and was thinking of doing 2 a day morning and evening and the ride on the open road over weekends on a Saturday will this be enough prep? Any advise would be appreciated thanks for the help regards Courtney
  15. Hi Guys I think the time to upgrade to a 29er hardtail Mtb has come.. So on Fri afternoon I decided to take a trip to my lbs, I asked them bang for buck whats the best value bike they have, and this is what they showed me: http://www.titanraci...m/29rpro.html R15k http://www.titanraci...on29rpro.html R20k They both identical except the one has a carbon frame, very nice looking bikes, The frames come with a 5yr warranty. Drive train is full XT with Slx brakes. ZTR Crest wheels Here my q's: 1. According to the salesman these frames are made by Merida, is this true? 2. The salesman said he preferred the titan bikes to Momsen, I've always thought of Momsen as the better of the 2, am I wrong? 3. Are these racing style frames? 4. For similar money what else can I get? (New) Thanks
