I am probably one of the most patient people around but when I get poor service from a shop, I will go out of my way to avoid dealing with them again.

Without going into too much detail (you are welcome to PM me, if you need more info) here are my Blacklisted Shops in the East:

  • Cajees Boksburg (Poor service when buying new 29er)
  • CycleLab Boksburg (Poor workshop service & other) In his defense, Werner did offer to rectify the issue but I refused as I've had enough.

On the other hand I can recommend the following shops:

  • Johnsons - Edenvale (Kim always kept me informed on status of my new bike)
  • Tour de Frans - Boksburg (Riaan , thank you for the fantastic service today  )

See, now here's the conundrum.

Going on my experience on just the four shops mentioned.

Cajees Boksburg, have had both good and bad service.

CycleLab Boksburg, only good service thus far.

Johnsons Edenvale, only mid to poor service.

Tour de Frans Benoni, have had both good and bad service.

No doubt others will have had differing experiences on varying levels, doesn't make any of them particularly bad outlets though.

You all complain about Cajees and there service. It is like asking a vegiterian which steak is tastes better a prime rib or a t-bone. They are there to sell stuff. They dont know or care about tyre compounds or the difference between groupsets.

Seriously guys we all love our bikes and cherish them. Why the f$%k do you take your beloved bike to an amatures. This does sound stupid, but when I walk into a bike shop, the first I look at is there staff and immediately I can tell if I want to do business with them or not.

For servicing I have a private bike mechanic. Sometimes I use Tony Impey or Complete Cyclist. Yes they are expensive but the knowlegde I gain is worth more than the price I pay.

If I am interested in a product, first choice CWC.

Easy to diss isn't it. I got a few I boycott, in fact one in particular in Woodmead that I will never go back to, but others swear by them. Must be me.

Bottom line is shop around for the best deals for parts and bikes, and for service, well deal with a mechanic directly, either at a shop or individuals. Or DIY. As for after-sales service, that's severely lacking in all retail sections and good personal service is the exception rather that the rule here and has a lot to do if they don't like ur face or not.

Only one I would like to mention on a positive note is Kim at Johnsons Cycles. He has helped me with small spares, sorted out a replacement warranty frame for my Cannondale and has always just been there. Do all my own mech work now, but I may add they were never shy to supply a new cassette with every service. Had a few dealings with the guys at Dunkeld: a few spares and supplies. Always like going there, they are really enthusiastic and always some nice kit there.

Bought a kids bike at Casojees in Woodmead in Dec: took it in the box and assembled it myself. I think I got a reasonable price. Buy the odds bits & peices there only because its close to Eastgate.

Wrong, I think they should care and offer the customer the best possible solution for his buck, I work in a boat store and if a customer asks for a certain thing I will show him the range of different options find out what yacht its for and recommend the best possible soultion for his price range, Not just "oh buy the Harken one because its 3x the price of the local one and I get more commision",,,Sorry the customer comes first.

How about a grey list, some shops you don't want to use but sometimes, due to economics or location, have to use!

Although they are not well stocked (with fancy shmancy stuyff!), I quite appreciate Cajees in Krugersdump. They always help me and have lent me tools before to work on my bike with no charge.

Agree there...I only go to Lourens Calitz (he now opened Cycle Centre) in CT and gives awesome bike service and since he used to race for a long period also knows about bike setup, etc.
