stratus5 Posted December 4, 2014 Share I used to catch the bus into town when I was studying in the early 90's and the double-decker bus in front of ours blew over at that spot.I was there that day. The bus had not blown over yet, but had been shunted sideways and come to a halt. The first person out was the bus driver The bus was rocking wildly in the wind, but being a double decker, all the passengers on the lower level were trying to get out first and the people on the top were trapped. Myself and about three others hung onto the windows on the windward side until everybody got off. We begged the driver to come back and drive the bus another 20m, which would have been out of the venturi. He refused and after we dropped off the upwind side, it took another two minutes or so before a really big gust did turn the bus over. The really annoying thing was the papers made the bus driver seem like some sort of hero, because nobody got hurt, when in truth he was a coward and endangered everybody's lives on the upper floor. I traffic cop arrived and there were some great pictures of him break dancing in the wind trying to police the intersection. He got blown over regularly His mate arrived on a motorbike ... wheee whaaa wheee wham slam dunk .. blown right over. Only slightly hurt, but his ego was hugely dented. It does not blow quite as strongly through that venturi now. It still very impressive, but the building layouts have changed and diminished the wind slightly.
