I think this is the new rules, it was never like this in the way we played. The new monopoly has a device with a timer that counts down the auction time.

Dont think so...there are our rules from an 80's monopoly......

The reason some of the rules of monopoly fell through the cracks is because of this: Where did you learn to play monopoly? Did you read the rules, or did someone teach you (mom, dad, etc). Where do you think this person learnt it? Hence, no one really reads the rules, it's normally taught to the next person by someone who's been taught by another.

exactly - thats the whole jist of this article that is trending that raised this little caveat....but who is the first "house rule" bast@rd that decided to omit the auction process and hand it down from generation to generation.

You have to admit though..this now throws a whole new spin on the game and takes a large element of luck out of the equation. It also means that players need to be quite tactical in their bidding process...I imagine the famous red/orange corner will auction for a fair amount of moola.......

There you go...I've actually learnt something today...READ THE BLERRIE RULES...just started teaching my son the game, so we can add a new angle to how things work, or should've worked.

Ah, oops, I should've read the article.

I do however normally make a point of reading the rules on any game - I like knowing where there's wiggle room and win on technicalities. I am also never trusted to be the bank, haha!
