I think that these cards that are posted although some may find them funny depending on their sense of humour are not considered funny by many people for obvious reasons.

As much as I am not a religious person we should accept that many people are and when the posters choose to post these pics am sure that they are aware that they will offend many people.

The question is then prob more about if it is appropriate to post something that you know will offend a lot of people.

Im not saying it is wrong to challenge a viewpoint that is strictly formed from a religious viewpoint but there are ways of doing this that are less offensive.

No matter how the "jokes" are created or happen to be formed they are indeed in pretty poor taste.

I just read up ye olde Hub rulz.

It looks like religious offending is open season!

Ja, cos those things are aimed at actual people, instead of belief systems.

You mean like the actual people that lost their lives in the gas chambers in ww2

Or the actual people that lost their lives in school shootings.

Just because someone feels that they have the right to say something, it doesnt mean that it is appropriate to do so.

Still think these card jokes are not in good taste.

riiiight, let me clarify what I understand everyone to be saying.

The fact that it is offensive to EVERY Christian to see a mockery of Jesus being made on a public forum is irrelevant, as long as all the non-Christians are okay with it?

So, again, as long as the majority is happy with flinging mud, the minority should cower and take it?

So, in essence, it is not offensive if the masses do not deem it to be so, not taking the time to consider the other side's opinion.

This is what Apartheid was all about. It was okay to hate on blacks and every other non-white, since their opinion mattered for nought. Seeing as all the white South Africans agreed to segregate, it made sense to shut the complainers up.

I am not saying that everyone has to agree, but please, if something is offensive to one person, no matter what your beliefs are, at least have the common decency to allow them to have their viewpoint, even if it contradicts your own worldview.

Failing which, this forum is driven by a bunch of raging hypocrites.

Do you feel that people on this planet should not have the right to say something that will offend anyone who believes in a specific religion?

No, that's not what I mean, and you're conflating issues and putting words into my mouth. I was referring to the ridicule of a belief system, not the cards you're referring to.

Personally, those cards make me cringe, but that's because I recognise that they could be offensive to some people. That doesn't make them hate speech, or racism, or homophobia.

It's not making fun of it, either. Humour doesn't always have to be funny to have an effect.

Got to say, although free speech is necessary, to be offensive just for the sake of it is somewhat anti-social. I'm not at all sympathetic to religion but the principle of "do unto others as you would have them do unto you" has great merit.

Just because one is able to shrug off offence does not mean it is cool to offend others just for the fun of it.

perhaps you missed that bit, so I highlight it for clarity sake.

It boils down to mutual respect. Something that there is short supply of on the Bikehub lately.

I think everyone needs a dose of respect.

I want to respect women. Hence, I do not post any sexually explicit or suggestive content.

I also respect Muslims. I do not agree with them though and will be open about that. But because I respect them I don't go around the internet looking for memes about them or their God.

I am not saying noone should have a meaning. But I don't like it when someone ridicules my God. Please respect me and my Cristian brothers on this forum enough to not make jokes about our faith.

Thank you.

Nice conflation, there. Very well set up straw man.

Racism (apartheid, in your example) is the hatred and subjugation of a subset of humankind based on their particular shade of skin.

If you (as a christian) were not able to partake in certain things, or were subjugated and prevented from access to areas based on your belief, THEN you'd have a valid argument. Being offended by someone's statement regarding your belief system DOES NOT EQUAL subjugation based on skin colour, or subjugation based on sexual orientation, or racism, sexism, pornography or any of those things.
