Very cute boy you have.

Is it just me, or does anyone else believe all dogs should sleep inside ? I would not be able to sleep at night knowing my dog is outside... Would freak me out.

When I adopted Kei from the SPCA they gave a handout with basic info. One of the things it said was dogs are better security if they sleep inside. I think it is to do with them feeling responsible for their pack (owners) when they are near you.

I think your theory is possible. I have also heard the following reasons why they are better for security when sleeping inside:

  • Easier to pin point the origin of the "danger"
  • Poison is less of a threat
  • The intruders are less certain of the amount of dogs
  • You are alerted to any danger easier
  • The dogs bark less often at useless things so when they do you should react

Far safer indoors regards poisoning, mine sleep inside at night then next morning before I let them out I check the front yard for anything suspicious. Day time when I'm at work they are kept in the back yard.

Wish I could do that. Tumbles and Alaska got poisoned some years back when I let them out to go to the Fast One at 4am. It's also kinda hard to check my whole property as I'm on 1200 squares. But, now that I'm at home with them more, and they only get let out at 5-ish (I get t sleep in these days!),it's easier to be vigilant.

Lily was sleeping inside...but it got into a habit of waking us up at 4am to eat and wee....so now she sleeps outside with the others. The only thing I worry about is posioning

Yip, my 4 dogs sleep inside but not in my bedroom, except the one.....There is no way that my dogs would sleeps outside in the winter or when it's raining. In the summer when it's really warm they like sleeping on their beds outside. But I give them the choice.

In the day they are in the back of my yard.

All 6 of mine sleep indoors. Thankfully I work from home and often sit outside so I don't have too much of a worry during the daytime. These days they are used to final P&P's at 9pm and then if they want to (seldom!) they get up with me at 5am. However most are happy to carry on sleeping! Only my old boy who passed away a few days ago would get up and come outside with me. I guess its an age thing!

But a friend had a window broken at the far end of home and poisoned meat was thrown inside, sadly her dog died on the way to the vet so I guess having them inside is also no sure thing but you can only do what you can do to protect them. I would love to put some of that two step in some pap and gravy and feed it to these lowlifes....

That will be too quick and mercifull.

Ja, when Tumbleweed and Alaska were poisoned, I hatched a horrid plan. I locked them in the bedroom and made a bed under the window where there had been a previous break-in. I lay waiting with a dumbbell, a piece of rope, a funnel, a stretch of hosepipe...as soon as the first head got through the window, bang, then the perp would wake up tied to a chair with rat poison going down their throat.

Cruel, but I was that angry.

Boelie and Bella (boerboel) sleeps outside at my folks, but Boelie knocks on their window to get in.

Wintertime they sleep inside. Boelie with dad and Bella with mom. Under the blankets on a double bed non the less.

If we visit Bella will make a family bed with us. She does not like my fiancee so she usually sleeps between us... Boelie might join in, but he farts some biological agent used I would guess in the German Death Camps :)

Now even Rufus wears a Dirtopia t-shirt. If only we can get the cats involved, we'll be a complete cycling family. Oh, wait, I forget, Polly is so bitchy, I'm sure she's a secret Hubber and Karel is so dopey, he would fit right in as a Tour de France cat!

Today we gave 'Lucy Lu' a new home, she was a shelter dog who has been looking for a home for many years (and I dont know why as she is really quite a cute dog now she has had a bath and a good brush). A Collie X something (spaniel maybe?). Although she will never fill that space in my heart where old Sabastian was, she will now have a new chance in life just as Sabs....Life moves on  and we do what we can do to help others along the way.
