On old photo, (+35 years ago ) the missus dug up of TGIP, with  Heidi pulling our eldest daughter and the Shopping from the shops.   Bonnie the spaniel was riding shotgun on the side.

It was a regular Sunday ritual to go to the shop for the Sunday newspapers and stuff. The Saint was so easy to train and really enjoyed the work.

Its always amazing how much breeds that were working dogs enjoy doing work.

Gorgeous.

You can say that again. I'm a bit of a gundog nut myself (Labradors, Golden Retrievers, English Pointers, Irish Setters, Springer Spaniels and a few more). To see a well trained dog work, is poetry in motion, like listening to live music (as opposed to canned airport music), like a real oil painting (as opposed to a cheap print). Doing what their breeding prepared them for, really make them come alive. :)

Best dog I ever met was my dad's spaniel, properly trained to the gun and the fittest animal imaginable. It used to be walked off the lead a minimum of two hours a day during the week and was out and about with us roving around the north Wales countryside for countless hours every weekend.

It once got attacked by a rather unfit Doberman and unfortunately for the Doberman the old adage 'its not the size of the dog in the fight but the size of the fight in the dog' held true. It ended up running away squealing after hitting what amounted to the fittest most agile dog shaped piece of granite imaginable.

I was devastated when old age finally took that dog.

I only got to know the Springer Spaniels about 10 years ago. At first I totally underestimated them, but I learnt quickly when one made my Labrador look like a real wuz working in a field full of devils thorns and bramble as if it was a bowling lawn. Next I saw one take on and retrieve a wounded and very angry Spurwing goose, about the same size as the dog and armed with spurs as big as the dogs canines. Bravery, tenacity and toughness personified.

Since we're talking working dogs: These English Pointers work for a living for about 3 months of the year. The rest of the time they get exercised and trained on a daily basis. They cannot roam loose, they live in a kennel with a large electrified dog run. They cost a little fortune each, and another little fortune to train and maintain. But they also have the kind of bond with their owner that allow them in the house every now and then on a really cold night........that's when I took the picture. (Wish they were mine)

Thanks for the kind words, guys!

Took Ghost out to Uncle Tim's yesterday to get away from things for a while, and ran into the secretary of the church I have been liaising with over the funeral! So much for getting away. Haha! Was hectic trying to chat with her in a crowded market with an excitable Ghost on the end of a leash! Didn't get any pics of the outing, as I left my phone at home, but I did capture Scar's reaction* to my taste on retro pouffes when we got home...

*By reaction, I'm not sure what face he's putting on in the pic! Hahaha!

So for those of you who remember Miss Molly's biggest problem when she moved from the SPCA to us a few months ago - here is an update on how things have changed ^_^

For 3 weeks she was intent on doing one thing with cats - eating them. Thanks to Ian J who came & worked with her a bit & then slowly slowly we got her used to them & the final step was her interacting with them wearing a soft muzzle. To all those who had faith - you were right!!!

Final stage of training. She wants to eat that cat SO badly!
