Not pets, but seriously professional workers, these two. Had the pleasure and privilege to see them do their thing last week. Wilbur (Smith) and Zingela (search).

They run like the wind, Zingi covered an average of 70 km in a day and did it 3 days in a row. I estimate that he did about 3-4000m of accumulated climbing per day. Wilbur is now 10 years old (70 in human years) so he only covered about 45km, yes, 3 marathons in 3 days. On the 3rd day we tried to leave him at home because it was particularly cold (-13 C early morning at sunrise) and the paw where a snake bit him last year looked sore, but he cried so much and so loudly that we let him come along. Did I mention that it was at Rhodes in the Southern Drakensberg and at between 2500 and 3000m altitude? The Rhodes marathon was on at the same time, and these guys would have won if it was open to English Pointers.

Oh, and as it they aren't great enough dogs, Zingi can walk on water too ! - running (ice skating) across a solidly frozen dam. Wilbur (wise old guy that he is) refused to go more than a few paces out onto the ice. We planned to catch a trout for lunch but couldn't break through the ice safely, so had to make do with sandwiches.

Sophia (6 year old Rottie bitch) has struggled with arthritis for long time. So special food and meds. Weekend playing in veld she starts limping. Thought maybe stepped weird in a hole it will go away.

Took for X-rays today. Arthritis in both front elbows but also in back — can’t do anything about it. Weekend limping caused by by torn ligaments in back leg so that must be mended. And typical bastard Rottweiler she has HD she actually needs hip replacement of a fusion.

Our two rescue dogs.

Funny how dogs can give the camera that " i don't trust you look"

I suppose they must wonder "what the hell is the human pointing at me now"
