Coffee machine

Recommended Posts

I am ready to graduate from my aeropress and hand grinder to a manual espresso machine and grinder machine. I am over my SMEG auto machine and am keen on mastering the manual brewing process.

Where can I buy a second hand Oscar or Rocket or similar level machine - not much on Gumtree.

Any ideas of where to look or visit?

Im selling my Grimac Mia if you interested. Drop me a PM and we can chat!

Does anyone have any experience with fabric coffee filters?

I got the Abid Clever dripper deal from Truth Coffee a while back and ordered some cloth filters with it. The coffee it made always tasted a little weird and I just assumed it was the taste of that brew style, stopped using it a while after getting it because it was bleh.

Then recently on YouTube I saw a batrista showing how to do a pourover coffee and he mentioned he first poured water over the paper filter to get rid of the paper taste, then the light went on(the fabric filter may be introducing some flavour) and I decided to get some paper filters and try the Clever dripper with those. I did that and now the coffee tastes good, normal.

So the weird flavour was coming for the fabric filters, tried boiling the filter with bicarb, washing it with kitchen soap and boiling again, nothing helped they still give a weird flavour to the coffee.

Is there anything else I can try?

Tired of using my Nespresso Machine with the pods and the impact it has on the environment.

Looking at getting a small home-use coffee grinding machine. It’ll be used mostly for Cappuccino or for Lattes.2 to 3 cups per day during the week and a few more over weekends.

Looked at the Phillips series 3000 and the Saeco Incanto with the frother.Really like the Saeco but is there something else out there to look at?

A question toe the aeropress guys:

Is this worth it? Has anyone used it?

Prismo aeropress spout.

Check this out on takealot, http://takealot.com/og/v1/PLID49809753

It seriously tickles my coffeegeek bone, but I think my Able SS filter is the bee's knees, and unless this makes a huge difference in flavour, I think it is going to get a skip pass.

The reviews seem divided on how effective it is, with most reviewers indicating that it doesn't seem worth the faff.

Reusable stainless steel pods are available for the Nespresso machines.

You should be able to find something similar in Europe.

  • 1 month later...

Got an upgrade on my birthday last week, and they on special, they really really nice actually146e5d34844951f587b0f986e6e79b01.jpg2d5433f58b7909d657b31379b06cd50e.jpge382310b86b21e1890210322fc84bc84.jpg

They are nice, but is someone drinks sugar/xylitol in the family, then the insides mark up from stirring - looks terrible on mine.

fortunately for now its just my wife and i in the house, and she's trained like me not to drink sugar in coffee, often referred to as a bidah(innovation).

when the wider family comes over, i bring out the old cups :whistling:
