Wobbles Posted June 7, 2012 Posted June 7, 2012 I am not sure how one qualifies for Olympic places in cycling and hockey...mainly because I consider cycling administation at all levels rather antiquated. In Track & Field and Swimming, athletes have to meet a certain standard to qualify and counties are allowed to send up to 3 athletes per event. Smaller countries like RSA have no problems because we don't have the depth but in the USA they have trials and the first 3 on the day goes! A bit harsh if you have an off day but the athletes respect this and there is no whining and moaning afterwards.

Not close to anybody and don't feel insulted. From the outside you have to admit it's a big surprise and suddenly it looks as if there is an agenda within CSA? So it's more in the interests of corporate governance than anything else. If I was accusing I would have said so and so bribed so and so... Without names and facts? What kind of fool comes out in public with spurious claims? Oh, I forgot, this is The Hub so you assumed that's what I was doing. Relax, it's not.

What I can't get is Cheirse's ommission - how demotivating to clearly be the second most successful women's road cyclist in the last couple of years - and not make the team of 3...

Well atleast he proved himself a SILVER at the worlds, oh well....another young rider up against EXPERIENCED riders, I never even heard of this Esterhuizen guy before.....but oh well....probably the same reason why Cherise isnt there...

Exactly. Worlds, Olympics, are not the place to let new up and coming riders have a go. You throw the best you got at those events. Oh well, guess CSA should just stick to purloining cricket money as usual.

GOLD!!! - The 17-year old Durbanite caused quite a stir when he won the 1km time trial in a world-class time of 1:03.265 at the UCI Junior World Track Championship in Italy. No offence to the young lad, but give him a few more years of international exposure, then think about pitting him against the very best.

JA-Q001 Posted June 7, 2012 Posted June 7, 2012 (edited) It is funny how at each Olympics they send someone for experience for the future and that's the last time that person sees that action, because at the next games there is a younger person with more talent that has to get experience! Why not do it the correct way, Identify them directly after the Olympics and develop them for 4 years, so they have enough experience and then send them. Send Hunter or Rheinard, clearly showed at SA champs that they are the best we got. Send Cherise ad Ashleigh. Cherise got worlds medals at junior already and is the current Time Trial champ, Ashley showed her class on world level and deserves it (and current road champ, to add), kudos for getting a spot for a 3rd lady, send the next best choice. I am not clued up enough for the rest of the disciplines, but surely, please send someone that has realistic chances to perform! Edited June 7, 2012 by JA-Q001 Akon 1
