Pyga best be careful not to start confusing their lineup. Stage, Stage Trail, 110, 120, 140, 160. Would the MX Trail not overlap with the 110? Maybe because it's carbon it'll be distinct enough.

Just have to be wary of not doing what Spez did with all their models. Spez is now cutting all te Evo lines and simplifying the lineup with 100, 120, 140 and 160 bikes.

Surely a trail friendly version of the stage would cross over into 110 territory? Would the geo be much more aggressive? RS1?

It's a carbon frame though. Slightly more travel than the 110. The Maxx would run a 140mm fork of your choice, just like the std Stage doesn't have to run a RS1. But yes, their line up is getting bigger and the risk of cross over is a reality.

My take on it:

Stage - 29r Carbon marathon racer. Slacker geo than say, the Epic.

Stage Maxx/ Trail - 29r Carbon trail/ everyday bike. Again, slack and low geo.

110 - 29r Alu option. 120 fork gives you a marathon/ everyday kinda bike. 140 puts it more trail based.

Then you have the 650B models where the 120 is similar to the 110, the Pascoe your trail/ Enduro frame etc etc.

They are firmly attacking the Spez Epic love affair SA riders have offering a more sensible option (geo wise) for most of these potential customers in the Stage.

The Stage Maxx would be for those wanting a less race tuned bike - a carbon version of the 110 perhaps.

As I said. My take. Pretty sure Mr PYGA has a firm grip on what not to do given previous experiences.

Lets look at rear travel and see if there will be too much overlap:

- 650B Ally models

120

140

160

- 29er Ally models

110

- 29er Carbon models

95

130 maybe... ;)

So this weekend I had my first fall with my Pyga. I don't know how, but managed to fall with my Fox Float Fit Kashima 140mm stanctions directly on a rock. MOERTOE!

I'm fine but my fork is not.....going to try and claim it from insurance today

Not really talking about number overlap, but rather purpose overlap.

To use the Spez examle the Camber Evo was pretty much a more XC friendly Stumpjumper but just as capable, so why would you pick the vanilla Stumpy over the Camber Evo? 10mm travel?  No ways.

So all I'm saying is they must just be aware of overcomplicating their lineup.  The new models being carbon will offer sufficient differentiation and given big price difference I think the existing lineup will still be safe.

Besides, it seems the SA market can swallow another R60k+ bike (I foresee more and more Giants on the trail...possibly even under my bum)

I agree. The market demands more than just the awesomeness of the product. The Pyga generates a lot of "want". The Giant (Anthem, Trance, Reign) with life time warranty fulfils the need....

If there were still new 29er trances available, I may even stop lusting over the Pyga. But then again, maybe not. [emoji12]

I get what you are saying. Generally, when a Pyga buyer comes into the shop they know what wheel size they want. So, it's quite easy to either point them to the 110 or differentiate between the two smaller wheeled options: depending if they want an allrounder trail bike or a slacker Enduro rig. But the Pascoe buyers usually know they want 140mm travel. The 160 buyers will also have made up their minds long before I chat to them (although I dont think there won't be that many of them).

The 95 will sell to your marathon riders who want something different (with better geo) in a sea of Epics and Anthems and the Trail version will be aimed at the guy or gal who wants a very special allrounder and has the extra budget.

But ultimately, the bikes sell themselves - all I do is let people ride the demos...
