Nope. The forum would be able to employ an innocent dissemination defence. As far as we are aware, Admin has not been made aware of who the suspect in this case is.

Probably a good thing to do....Admin can plce some sort of suspension on his classifieds only thus keeping the scaredy cats subdued.

He was in possesion of stolen goods. If he sold it at a good price does that make him a criminal ?

Yes, it does. Being in possesion or dealing in stolen goods is a crime.

why should this blokes account be suspended ? Who was that hubber that had a garmin taken from him? He was in possesion of stolen goods. If he sold it at a good price does that make him a criminal ? Suspend his account ?

Well at least he could be contacted and spoken to behind the scenes so that he is proteced as well if he has not commited these offences.

I do believe that the moderators and owners have an obligation to protect the community in this regard.

If i have stolen goods(i have bought a fair amount of stuff from the Cape recently) i would want to know about it asap so that i can sort things out on my side.

If he is implicated in this his account should be suspended to protect others,

but by all means chat to him first.

If the bloke was selling stuff that he bought from a tik addict for R100 at market related prices it's nothing like one person unknowingly buying a stolen item.

Naas can let the owners of the hub know who this chap is,

they can suspend his account and contact anyone who has had dealings with him so that they can then protect themselves as well as this site.

This is a business afterall and they can be implicated as they have allowed stolen goods to pass through their doors.

Go read this section in the Terms of Use.

5 DISCLAIMER AND LIMITATION OF LIABILITY

Thats good that the hub is safe.

I think that Naas should be contacted and things confronted and sorted out.

This can only hurt the community that has been grown over so many years.

I think it is in the best interests to be sorted out ASAP.

Agreed, but only if the accusers or some authority furnish as much confirmable info - ie, copies of the docket, court roll, etc - as possible to Admin. Acting without these could be seen as prejudicial.

I mentioned it before, all newbies need to become community members before they can place an advert.

I say 200 pots, by hen they will either have left or realized that we are not always as thick as two planks.

I don't agree. People sometimes don't post but still uses the hub to buy and sell stuff. It is not in everyone's personality to talk nonsense for 200 posts.

I agree with a few others, the OP's intentions were good (having read his second post). I would have just handled it differently, in the manner that you say. The add could have been reported with the reasons mentioned. The add would have been suspended until everything was cleared. Then an open thread started.

Been saying that for a long time. Would be nice to get rid of the lot selling herbal p3n1s enlargement creams, etc. But maybe just 20 posts, not 200. That takes quite some time for the average non-addicted Hubber.

Most other forums do this because of scenarios like this.

I say if one wants to use the privilege of selling on a forums classifieds section, then you need to become an active community member.

It's a forum, it attracts all types of shifty as well as good characters.

It's not a big effort to become part of this community to build some trust.

I also realise that it won't completely sift out the skelms, but very much like putting a lock on your front gate, it's a deterrent.
