Was'nt there a positive test this year at the Epic?

Yes, that guy from Durban. Whatever his name was. Then again, Russell Lund of Cyclelab tested positive at Argus and that was very hush hush.

Please elaborate on his "yuppie flu"? So he was sick, on death's door? no? Incapable of riding for a long time?

Not quite. Depending on who you listen to, there was allegedly a hushed-up test.

Was thinking the same thing...

There was (is)a positive at Epic, but it is not DG -- that person's hearing was due to be held last week but has been postponed. The person who tested positive was not one of the top guys (not in the top 50) and could be a case of legitimate medical exemption.

As far as I understand things DG cannot be stripped of anything from before August 29 (the date he was tested) so Epic results should stand, but he can be sanctioned for races after that. So the guy who was hoping to move up to postion 327 at Sani is still in position 328 and WAS beaten by DG and KE, but if you finished 134th at Cape Pioneer you are now 133rd ... and if you were second on Stage 2 of Cape Pioneer you may just have earned yourself a R100 000 bonus !

And, presuming KE is innocent (and we have no reason to say anything different, although I am sure that will not stop the speculation), think how that will affect him. He has probably just lost his share of R125 000 for Pioneer, plus he will forever be tainted and his credibility has taken a huge blow ... and if Nedbank do pull out he has lost his sponsor.

Wonder who KE will ride Epic with? Max Knox may be a good teammate?

Question. I havent been paying attention today to the thread so apologise if this has been answered.

I'm not condoning what he did, under no circumstances, it's shameless/disgrace.

But

Why are they / EPIC race owner/organiser looking/talking to lawyers about DG's Epic race.

He was found to have drugged out of race conditions, and he confessed to being positive, out of race!

I'd think they can only consider going after any medals or money if they can proof he competed in said race/event and was positive at that time.

He can easily say he took the EPO the day before the test, and was caught, end of story... but ye also now end of his career.

G

Listened to a radio interview yesterday afternoon. Basically what I understood from it was the following:

DG's biological passport and some of the key indicator levels were monitored (apparently they do this with all athletes).

So what will transpire is that based on yr body composition and whole lot of factors and tests, they determine a normal value for the levels.

When they compare test levels to these levels they can pick up abnormalities/spikes

They then look at an athletes race programme and assume when they will be using whatever it is they use to enhance performance

Based on this information they conducted a targeted test on DG in Aug. Targeted meaning they had a hunch they could find something, and not just a random out of comp test. So the methods etc they use seems to be working.

Question is will Max Knox be interested?

Vermaak is full of crap on this. He has no recourse. I'm sure David would've been tested during the Epic.

Just heard an interview with Vermaak on Bokradio (of all places...) Apparently the UCI/CSA (or whoever is in charge) must still determine from when and how long he doped, every result before that will stand / every result after not. Obviously If it is determined that he doped while doing the Epic the team that finished behind them will be entitled to the prize money he won, that's why they could be suing David in future.

I think the odds of KE not knowing is very slim, these guys spend 5hrs+ a day together.

Then you have to ask how clean is he then?

Following the above presumption, you have to ask, how clean are the guys that beat them convincingly in the last Epic? (Not taking punctures into consideration, they haven't found a drug to combat those yet)

This is just my opinion, but as far as pro cyclists go, you are guilty until proved innocent

except la, who is innocent even when proved guilty. whistling.gif

Why is this a MTB vs Roadie Isue? He's a profesional cyclist that used illegal substances to boost his performance. I know road cycling is physical more demanding whistling.gif , but I can see MTB'ers doping for the excact same reasons.

What a load of BS..........Maybe you should try Mountain biking sometime. I do both, road and MTB, and 3 hrs MTB racing is definitely tougher than 3 hours on the road................

You're draw harmful, unsubstantiated conclusions. Guilty by association? Really? Stick to the guilty guy untill proven otherwise please.

Yip on paper but everyone will take 360Life's results with a pinch...I am just glad they won't get the big CPT paycheck and that Melt and Matthys Beukes will
