I wonder.... given the hype and controversy surrounding the sport and doping right now, due to Lance etc, is there a chance that CSA and the anti doping authority might launch an investigation into doping in SA cycling, some sort of a Truth and Recon committee?

- DG tells all???

EDIT - I mean lets face it, DG surely isnt the only one doping...

I see now, the gooseflesh syndrome is not necessarily fro EPO ,it's a common sign to look out for though.

From Wikipedia: -

  • Johan van der Velde of the Netherlands undertook hospital treatment for his addiction to amphetamines at the end of his career. He said in an interview with the author Jan Siebelink ("Pijn is genot") that he had trouble coping when that success began to dry up. Van der Velde said he remembered shivering at the start of an Italian race, the skin of his arms wrinkled in goosebumps, because of the amphetamine he had taken just to start. He was also disqualified from the 1981 Liège–Bastogne–Liège race.

Like the UCI, our own CAS has a lot to answer for.

So this sort of investigation should start from the top.

And all our local pro's who have been so vocal on Twitter lately?

I wonder how many pots are calling the kettle, black...

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

USN TERMINATES ASSOCIATION WITH DAVID GEORGE WITH IMMEDIATE EFFECT

Following the announcement yesterday by the South African Institute for Drug-free Sport that Nedbank 360Life’s David George has tested positive for the banned substance, EPO and George’s subsequent admission of guilt, USN has, with immediate effect, terminated its association with the professional cyclist.

USN has a zero tolerance policy on doping in sport. Such is USN’s commitment to this as a responsible sports supplement brand, that it only supplies its elite and professional ambassadors with product that has been certified as being free of prohibited substances on the World Anti-doping Association (WADA) list by HFL Sport Science in the United Kingdom.

“USN has invested a great deal of effort and funding in this screening process, which is logistically challenging and costly, but is currently the most comprehensive risk management process available to ensure sports supplements are safe for use by professional sportsmen and women,” said Albe Geldenhuys, USN founder and CEO.

USN was the first South African sports supplement brand – and is still one of just a handful of brands – that adheres to this procedure, which screens against banned substances on the WADA list and which ensures an auditable chain of custody is kept from the point of manufacture to the end user.

HFL Sport Science is an internationally recognised and accredited laboratory providing high quality testing for athlete healthcare and nutritional supplements. Their aim is to give athletes, coaches, and national federations confidence in supplement manufacturers and suppliers, and to provide analytical services relating to biomarkers of fitness and nutritional health.

HFL's Informed Sport Programme is recommended as a process for teams and athletes by certain International Sporting Federations and UKAD (United Kingdom Anti-Doping) and uses internationally recognised standards in their testing processes.

is recreational drugs really common amongst professional people? Maybe i'm just blind but I've never come across friends or colleagues that are involved with drugs.

We just often drink too much, that's all

Drinking is also a drug! The last time I looked alcohol was on the banned list. Drinking and driving / cycling is also illegal.

Surely they didn't think DG was that good just purely from riding on their products?! It's amazing how quick everybody runs away, as if they never suspected.......

Could not agree more....

It should have stopped here:

But then they carry on about their product.

It is their 'window of opportunity'.. Just keep kicking USN, you will be squeaky clean in comparison soon.

For as long as there is big money to be made, there will be guys like DG looking for an easy pay day.

Bring back the days when athletes were racing for glory and a trophy.

Its like the rugby and cricket players getting paid millions for running after a ball.

GET A REAL JOB.

Doping is inevitable when you see the $$$$ signs.

99% of us can work a hard day behind a desk and do the sport for enjoyment. So should they.

Sponsors should put that money into hosting awesome events rather than into athletes and prize money.

They will still get the exposure they are looking for!
