This thread use to be very active. See there is not a lot of movement on it anymore.  People stop building Chinese bikes or are they just not posting about it anymore?

I do not see many Chinese bikes on rides?

Possibly the Rand/Dollar has made it less attractive.  I think when the thread started it was around R1/$9 ?

I've just finished building a gravel bike - but I'm paying US $, not Rands.

Got my wheels from order to delivery by SAPO to my DOOR = 7 days!

But why did I have to pay R1200?

Duty of some R600
VAT of some R600
And the clearance fee of R44 which I believe is standard

My wheels also came this week from Taiwan. R960 for customs clearance. Seller split the costs $350 for wheels and $200 shipping. Customs was just charged on the $350. I was expecting to pay closer to R1500 for customs.

yeah as mentioned, there shouldn't be any duties on the wheels.

Just normal VAT and the clearance fee.

So I ordered a helmet from Cicli and it arrived via DHL. They send me an invoice for R1230 duties and tax etc.

I phone them and query it - wrongly classified. New invoice is R473.

I Ordered my frame during Jan and it got here 24th of Feb. I was so happy to see that box! At that stage there were only a number of cases outside of China, but the factory in china didn't go back to work after Chinese New year.

There she is.

Since my chinese ec90 bars cracked I have not bought anything again

Well then it wasn't an EC90 was it.

Buying counterfeit is criminal so no sympathy from me.
