Hi guys

 

Sorry, don't have the time to go through all the pages. Is there a comprehensive book of recipes or a website that you guys would recommend for beginners. I don't need to read more about the science, just looking for a LCHF for dummies.

A new review study about the negative effects of excess Omega 3 oils. Prof Tim Noakes tweeted about this as well. I think in the years to come more and more research are going to show this. What is the true limit, or maybe, it's not "essential" at all ?

Similar to my earlier post, just raised the bar one notch.

305km today.

 

0 km - Bullet proof coffee

150 km - Cappuccino / Scrambled egg with cheese

200 km - Handful Almonds / Two small dry wors

240 km - Sliced Salami / Apple

260 km - Banana

305 km - TOTAL KM

 

Never thought this would have been possible 6 months ago!

 

P.S. Oh yes ...... and only water (except for the last 100km where I used 50/50 water / Energade.

Totally fell of the LCHF diet since moving in with my fiancé.

Need to get back onto the diet. Gained a lot of weight this past holiday. 2.5 kg's.

 

Were on Melarone and a anti biotic course. Were in Moz with my family who are against LCHF. So had a load of carbs pushed down my mouth.

 

Will have to make a plan. Need a baseline of my cholesterol to show my folks that the HCLF (high carbs low fat) sucks big time

I am trying to eliminate, as close to zero as possible, all PUFA's from my diet, and substitute with Saturated fats like coconut oil and butter. It can take up to 4 years, with a good PUFA free diet, to reduce 50 - 75 % of stored PUFA's in body cells. It's a long term process back to health and vitality for those severely effected by bad diets in the past.

Too much PUFA = free radicals = inflammation = sickness?

 

Thankfully been following sound advice on this thread wrt staying clear of vegetable oils and enjoying animal fats and butter (thanks, guys :D ).

 

Pulled the following graph from http://butterbelieve...m/what-is-pufa/ showing the same as yours but categorised by type of fat.

The graph shows how much PUFA intake increased throughout the last century.

Also interesting, is that the quality of the saturated fats has been decreasing, ie. the saturated fats contain more and more Omega 6 and fewer Omega 3 PUFAs due to the feed changing from grass to grain.

 

The following graph shows the PUFA content of various feeds used in meat industry.

Remember PUFAs accumulate in mammals' cells, so the ratio of PUFAs consumed by the animals end up being in the meat we eat which accumulate inside our bodies.

Is CO just a freak vegetable oil? It has so little PUFA (half of butter).

 

Same wikipedia page also has this nugget:

"Yellow (used vegetable oil, eg used deep-frying oil) is used to feed livestock, and to make soap, make-up, clothes, rubber, detergents, and biodiesel fuel.[49]"

What crap are unscrupulous farmers feeding the livestock that we end up consuming? :(

Yes, very good article. Summing it up very nicely. PUFA's block the efficient use and metabolism of glucose by the body cells, and from there a lot of the trouble starts. Stress and estrogen also play a big role, and they work synergistically with PUFA's, with continuous negative feedback loops.

Guys I just got diagnosed with gout at the age of 25 :thumbdown:

Quite busy at work now so can't do much reading. But I'm interrested to see if LCHF is the culprit

Chris Kresser seems to think it's inflammatory items in the diet that cause gout rather than the amount of fats and proteins.

Read in a few places that coffee and lots of fluids should help. Good luck!

 

Gut inflammation certainly play a role according to Ray Peat as well.

 

“I think hypothyroidism and bowel inflammation are the important thinks in gout. Raw carrot salad and aspirin, and correcting thyroid function, usually take care of it.”

 

Check your thyroid function as well ASAP. LCHF destroys thyroid function over time.

I get gout now and then. About the same frequency prior to and post LCHF.

 

The only common denominator I can pick up is high protein intake while dehydrated. Typically it used to be protein drinks when i was dehydrated (dehydrated means that I've felt dry for a couple of days and been telling myself I should drink more but not doing it).

 

This time (just before Christmas :cursing: ) I think it was dehydration again. We went down to the coast and the tap water was discoloured and I wasn't too keen to drink it.

 

Otherwise, is hard to tell what actually causes it. When I gave in and drank red wine and ate red meat, it did not seem to get any worse. And maybe even got a bit better.

 

Edit: Schweinhund: Read your link. Could well have been due to extra sugar intake due to the Christmas season... this would be consistent from when I tried an experiment with low gi carb juice by drinking it concentrated before a ride in to see if it would last through the ride, which the marketing blurb indicated that it should do. Got gout that evening. Interesting. Another good reason to avoid sugar.
