Guys what this really means,.........is that you can't celebrate a tough stage with that dagga spliff anylonger. It may be a performance enhancer.

Also, maybe don't take any bone stimulants lie Viagra. it could be embarrassing on many levels

you okes laugh - if you look at the doping records every year a large percentage are for weed...I dont know how that helps....maybe the paranoia sets in...."why they all chasing me?" must pedal harder and get away from them..."they still catching me...aaaaargh!!" faster faster

thats why at all the tough stage races there a sooooo many feeding stations MUNCHIES

Hubbers. It's early morning and I'm speed-reading through this, so what I'm about to say might be absolute bollocks or has been said already.

Surely the level of fine assumes a professional athlete has been found guilty of taking a performance-enhancing substance, and that by enhancing performance has been able to secure/earn more income based on winnings and/or improved exposure. The fine is therefore merely a clawback of illegitimate income and a financial disincentive to take a banned substance. Of course this has no applicability in the case of an amateur athlete, and then the arguments of cost recovery related to the actual tests do come into play.

I thought the usual procedure is to refer the case to the national cycling federation to decide on a sanction?

Well, by not agreeing to the acceptance of sanction, it looks like it gets handed over to CSA now. I'll wait and see.

R2 500 is a set of brakes. Hardly a serious fine in the context of a UCI event.

It's actually R25 000 !

I wonder though if the Reserve Bank will give clearance to pay a fine in a foreign currency?

Wow, this is Crazy, I went to school with this Guy, and he is a "Average middle to back of the Field" Rider, Must have been a random test at Epic (cos he def wasnt competing for places).... Also saw him at Sani race last week and he was closer to the back of the field than the middle.... Need to keep an eye on this one...

And that makes it ok?

Doping in cycling (sport) is a problem, to solve it requires a zero tolerance policy, no if's and but's....Especially considering that the particular substance was not consumed by accident as with some over the counter non PED type substances.

I've said it earlier in this topic, people who illegally use PED's should not be trusted to tell the whole truth when it comes to the why's and how's...

@MTBaaisikillst - Nothing personal against you and i'm not saying you in particular are lying, its rather a generalization or rule which I feel should apply in ALL such cases to avoid any possibility of the gullible being lead astray by the more devious doping types...
