That makes me miss a legendary hubber of old, Hagar. We became friends on this site when he threatened to take a baseball bat to my head.

He lived down in Saldanha, and I stayed with him for a couple of days some years back. Loved his food did our Hagar. One of our outings during my stay was up to Paternoster to get kreef.

Crayfish just tastes better eaten on the Weskus, doesn't it?

They got so pernickery about the crayfish season that it is just about impossible nowadays to take out your own. Which ticks me off big time! Because there is no crayfish better than the one you just dived for in the freezing water, then grilled it on the same fire on the beach that you use to treat your hypothermia while you administer Old Brown Sherry to the crayfish and to yourself. The best!

But yes, luckily the crayfish season is open 365 days a year in Paternoster, where you can buy it ant time of the day or the night from "vendors" opposite the police station, where they turn a very blind eye.

Very nice. My GF makes haloumi and feta cheese. Small scale and sells it. Much better than anything I have ever bought.

Today I'm making kumquat achar. Not much experience with Indian pickles so I'm not very confident. Have to start somewhere I suppose.
