Can someone please tell me who actually won the women's category?

I saw that Moolman won, but according to racetec, 4 women from D batch took the first 4 spots and beat Moolman by 7 min or so.

Does Moolman win for crossing the line first? and the women that got a better time get nothing(maybe a sponsor afterwards). Its just difficult to read that she won, then see the results show differ, and by such a big gap.

One thing that just came back to me, I parked down Maxwell Dr. and when I returned to my car, the guard (who was not the one who promised to look after my car when I parked) mentioned to me that he had been looking after the vehicle for me.

I reached into my pocket and gave him the last R10 I had on me. "No" was the response. The cost for this is R20 and he showed me a piece of paper about 3cmx2cm on which I could almost make out a printed R20.

Now I don't mind paying the guys, I do however mind the fact that I was not informed by the official looking parking attendant when leaving my car there only to be told this by the not so official guy 6 hours later.

Those guys are a joke. I parked in Van der Bijl Avenue and the guy came along with his piece of paper for R20 parking. I said I would pay him when I got back. Returned to my car mid-morning and nobody was there, (except some more official looking security)..surprise surprise!! I wouldn't have paid him anyway though. The principle of "car guards" really gets on my tits.

Not a bad business model though, upfront payment for zero services rendered. Hate to know how much tin they made.

Moolman won because she started in the Elite ladies group who were racing for position - it's not unusual for the times of the elite ladies to be slower than some of the batch ladies who have the benefit of riding in a group with some pretty fast men. The elite ladies race is usually a lot more tactical....

Anyone notice the smell in town when you got back onto M1..... Shew quite yuck.

Didnt expect that

@W1zArd - I did indeed, it was rather rank (and most unwelcome considering I needed all the air that I could get!). A speedy chap whizzed passed me and remarked on the same - would be a huge coincidence if that was you out of all the cyclists, but thought I'd mention it just in case!

Ashleigh did win because she started in the racing elite women category. This is the group where the overall ladies winner is taken from.

Other races have the same outcome with some women getting faster times than the racing women.

elite ladies is very different tactically with lots of attacks and periods of pretty intense intervals. Those that are getting faster times should go and race with the elite ladies, it will be good for the sport.

Need to train a bit more up at jhb altitude. It definitely does have an effect, what say all those from the more coastal areas?

Managed to stay with the second group of A batch (just) until just after exiting the N14 and then couldn't hang on anymore. Some of the first group of B went by and my legs just felt pap so rode solo the last 15ks or so. In the end did a 2h38. Could have been much better but that is what next year is for:)

Overall a good weekend including the twitter ride on Saturday which was also a great event.

Some random pics.. one at a time ;)

Water point 8, 15 minutes before official cut-off

Those streaks across the road are from water/Coke/Energade. Road surface becomes quite sticky from all this sugary stuff!

That's what I thought. The ladies in a lower batch can sit with strong men, whereas the elite women ride with themselves. I mean it makes sense for first over the line wins.

My only complaint.

I did not meet a single hubber, except for my old friend NSBB of course.

You and Carpet finished 1 minute ahead of my missus. What kit were you wearing Wyatt?

I did hear one roadie comment on my mtb " oh, another tough guy"

depends how you look at it, maybe he is really thinking mtb'ers are tougher than the roadies, and saying you are much tougher than him. - in this case you should have thanked him

If he meant it in a chop kinda way - then thats just not cricket

I only spotted it on my second lap, it was rather mean! What did it say again? Something about ...40km.

edit: It was a nice reminder of the suffering ahead.

It said something like "but wait there's more... 40km more" I thought it is quite a clever advertisement. Even if I still had to suffer for 40km...
