Times up La Planche Belles Filles compared to 2012post-28269-0-09548300-1405364913.jpg

times are probably faster in comparison if you consider it was raining yesterday too.

Thats if Berto has recovered and is ready to race by then.

When is Vuelta?

It starts on 23 August. 5.5 weeks away - I don't see how AC will even consider getting up for that.

It takes 4 - 6 weeks for a bone break to knit properly. Then he would still need another 6 - 8 weeks to get back up to 100% race fitness (with a decent 7 day stage race thrown in to get his racing legs back).

Hopefully AC only has a stable, simple fracture (below).

Still, it's going to be immobilised - either with a functional brace or full lower leg cast, depending on severity. Once fully knitted the physio and coach will need to slowly start working on building the lower leg muscle structure again, slowly increasing the loads on the newly knitted bone. And only after that, will they start proper training again.

I don't see how he's going to make it to Vuelta.

But then again, you never know with modern medical advancements, world-class round-the-clock medical attention...

it surely can't be that bad, if he rode uphill with it?

can't remember if he stayed seated the whole way or got out the saddle on steeper sections, but he didn't hang around and was overtaking most other riders.

or maybe he's just a bit more hardcore than those poofter spanish foosballers.

I've just seen statement from Tinkoff-Saxo that Contador may have to have corrective surgery. That suggests something more serious than a simple/stable fracture.

It might very well mean a return to full racing fitness in 4 - 6 months.

In other words, his 2014 season may be over.

For anyone who's interested, here's a pretty comprehensive summary of tibia (shinbone) breaks and the recovery process.

That will be a showdown of note ~ assuming AC is recovered and ready to race.
