Shimano XTR pedals...

are sheeeeet pedals. I'm currently on my third set and this morning the pedal came OFF the shaft for no reason, resuting in a near accident. As I stood up to start pedaling it happened and I swerved into the road, trying to regain control. This also happened to a mate of mine a few weeks ago. Having problems with them and hopefully they will replace but they still become loose very quickly.

Same thing happened to mine they also replaced them no questions asked. Mine gave way in a race which was not nice had to ride 20 km pushing foot inward so they would not slip off.

The solution is really very simple, get XT pedals.

XTR pedals are not worth the extra money and all the hassle that most guys seem to have with them.

XT pedals on the other hand are superbly tough and last for 10's of thousands of abuse.

Wondering about the weight difference, XTR = 310g vs XT = 343g per pair.

Worth the extra bucks and all the issues that the less durable XTR pedals have, I think not.

I just use the Ryder spds and at 300g a pair and R500 bucks they win both ways!

EDIT: Oh yes, they also have a lifetime guarantee!

Save even more and get a set of PDM 520's. Now that is a bullet proof set of pedals. Fraction of the cost, tough as heck and a weight penalty of a few grams. You can make up for the weight penalty in the green rocket before the start...

You could always just switch to flats......

there is even a better solution...get spd 540's...basically xt's without the badge.

My spd of choice...cheap as chips, hard as nails

Like all carbon light weak things in cycling .They will not last .XT XT XT only!

There's no carbon at all on those pedals, in fact they are quite heavy and the clip plate even rusts (could have be SS or Ti for that price)

I haven't had any problems with XTR pedals (three sets) over a few years, so could have been batch manufacturing problem, $h!t happens.
