I drive via kloof street to work and didn't see anything this morning - around 7h30.

Hectic!

I saw the ambulance further along the road just before 7am but I turned a couple of streets before the intersection not thinking there may have been a cyclist involved. The accident I believe was on the corner of Kloof Road & Kings Road in the area where Sea Point borders Fresnaye & Bantry Bay.post-7797-0-22949600-1389784673_thumb.jpg

The cyclist is ok. lots of bruises on body and face, 6 stitches under chin. He was freewheeling down kloof road towards sea point... at about 06:20 am. A Kharmann Ghia was driving up in opposite direction. The driver did a sudden right turn. Cyclist had no chance to avoid. Cyclist was still conscious and driver got out to check... cyclist smelt alcohol and mentioned he was going to call police... Driver abandoned car and fled scene. Another cyclist was first on scene... she was a doctor and helped.. along with another cyclist who kindly phoned ambulance assistance. Bike destroyed.

He was very lucky from the sounds of things.

So if the driver runs away is it still a hit and run? .... I am being serious and I know this is a play on words, but it would be interesting to know what the legal stand point is.

Yes. Specifically, fleeing the scene of an accident.

surely someone driving a Karmann Ghia should be very easy to track down?

Cant be many around.

Maybe a place like Motorstars would know the owner .... or rented him the car. They would also, in all likely hood do the repairs to the car
