I looked at it but decided get Black Seaman Tomato rather. If memory serves me right the tree tomato takes a year or two before u can harvest

would you be interested in trading some of your tomatoes for some tomato tree seedlings?

Started a compost heap now. Planning for it to be a "moerby" heap taking care of kitchen scraps ect.

I know not to put meat and animal products in it. But regarding veg matter, is there any no no's that i should look out for?

Banana peels or anything overly fibrous like palm leaves etc

Also be careful with what kitchen scraps you put on. I've seen compost heaps where the peelings etc have attracted rats :) kitchen peelings (except citrus onions and tomatoes) do well in a worm farm. Edited by blondeonabike

Potatoe peels are not brilliant, rather toss them in the bin

So our chickens have been roaming the garden for a while now. I must say they make a meal out of ghekkos and lizards very quickly as well as the odd snail. They also munch almost if not every flying insect and eat alot of the weeds too. However one must watch them around seedlings and some plants. They started laying about 2 weeks ago and man are those the nicest eggs we have ever had.

Hope you green fingered legends have started planting. I've gone a more technical route this year. I'm growing soilless seedlings before potting my crop. A blend of coir and perlite with a vermiculite cap. Water cycles have been tricky but I think I have got it down(15 seconds every hour with micro jets) My veg garden is potted as I only have a roof top to use.

Although our yard is big enough to cultivate a maize crop that would feed a small african nation for a year, I did the potted garden last year. Was the best evvva. Going the same route this year.

Different seedlings are growing now, apparently there is a possible cold front next week though so I will transplant them into the veg garden after that. We have had frost before in Sept in Magalies. Because we have a lot of veg waste every day (being vegan it happens!) I am looking into getting some earth worms:http://www.suburbanearthworms.co.za/earth-worm-farm.php

Jip. I have lost my seedlings before due to transplanting to soon. Surprise frost.
