I guess the real question is, would it be dumb to sell a kidney on Ebay to buy the new Cannondale Scalpel Ultimate? It looks like a win win to me? First you get that awesome bike and secondly you are also a bit lighter so can ride it faster, and I mean really who needs two anyway?

Pretty please can someone create a second hub profile, we can not let this thread slow down or die.

This thing has taken on a life of its own!

And there's enough CS sympathisers, posting as brand spanking noobs, to keep this running for weeks yet!

Gotta love the CS "sympathisers", high on entertainment value but low on common sense.

I've heard many times about how these fake frames come out of the same factory as the real ones, so essentially it's the same thing etc etc.

I have no basis for comparrison, but I have however seen the quality of the Fake Oakleys, Fake Nike's, Fake Addidas etc.

The point is the quality in inferior to the real McCoy. Some copies are better than others, but there is no way they are made in the same factory as the originals. In short, it's crap.

Ok - there's real fakes and there's fake fakes, and the difference in quality is enormous. I saw this firsthand when i was in Asia a few years back (the continent not the supergroup).

There's also a corresponding difference in price.

Fake, Faker, Fakest - I'm inventing a language here .. :w00t:

Fake, More Fake, Most fake more likely.

I wonder where these bike frames rate in the degrees of comparrison.

All this attention for a fake bike! I wonder if all you "Fake Bike Activitists" out there put this much effort into bigger issues like the state of our roads, corruption, etolls, rape, farm murders, the secrecy bill, the state of our nation etc. or are you silent and complacent on these issues.

I believe your question is answered, 'X.

What a useless post.

What's your interest in all this with your attempt at distraction from the issue at hand?

Something that strikes me about the whole debacle is the fact that fake bikes seem quite common. Not so with the Honda Fireblade mentioned earlier - no Chinese fakes I am aware of. This poses the question - why? Simple - a motorbike is a complex piece of machinery - not simply a frame you can hang some components on and therefore not something you can produce out of any old shed. All this quality checking Golefty mentions is really neither here nor there - surely all motorcycles are checked just as much before they go out the door? Notwithstanding this, they are sold at what appears to be good value compared to a carbon push bike.

I am also aware that Scott carbon bikes like the Spark 910 have a cost price in the twenties but are sold for a lot more than that new. To what extent have the bike companies created the problem themselves by charging such ridiculous prices for bikes?

If Dogma's were a fraction of the price I'd buy one and Mr Fake would be out of business. Pinarello would also sell a lot more bikes.

Don't lets start talking about MTB tyres...

Actually the number of fake/pirate parts out there are scary. Especially for motorbikes.

So yes, while complete 'fake' bikes aren't out there, there's plenty pirate parts floating around, because that's where the money is.

R800 for a top end MTB tyre with Kevlar what not etc .... R2000 for an average motorbike tyre that still has basic construction.

The other day I had to stop in at Honda to have a puncture repaired, new tube plus an hours labour. Total of R458 incl Vat.

An estimate on a centre stand was around R3500, excl labour. All it is, is tubular steel that works on a tensioned spring under the bike. No titanium, no carbon, vokal bling.

That's just on a bog standard workhorse like a Transalp, don't even start on the more exotic high end stuff. Like servicing costs on even an older model Ducati are enough to make your wallet bleed through your anus!

So to a large extent while the costs on top range bicycles are high and very subject to supply and demand, it's also very much relative, I feel anyway.
