Did my first ride (Other than Arrggguuuss) along Chappies this afternoon.

Had a meeting out in Noordhoek, took the M3 and Ou Kaapse Weg to get there, and came back via Chappies and Campsbay to Table View.

A really nice loop, and the views long the Chappies section are really amazing. Unfortunately there was a bit of traffic, and with a bit of fog in places, this slowed the traffic down even more.

The leather jacket was great at highway speeds, before at 120km without the windscreen on you could really feel the wind pushing you on the bike, even worse if riding in strong winds, with the leather jacket it feels like you are more slicing through the wind, so a far more comfortable ride.

Quick pics snapped along the way ..... and the sissy bar is great for strapping bags to and not needing to carry a back pack on your back.

We had a incident this morning. 5 of us went for a breakfast ride. On the way home, my son and two others went ahead. I was on the Rocket chilling at the back with our neighbour on his Harley . Come round a bend and see cars and bikes stopped on the side of the road. I see only 2 bikes and with a sickening feeling realise my son's bike is not there.

The emotions as I parked the bike and walked across the road not knowing what I was going to see is something I never want to experience again. Bike is pretty bent and son is alright. Bit stiff and bruised. Helmet and jacket moertoe.

Total freak accident. There was a blind 90 degree turn to the right. Slow row of cars and he overtook. Fortuner in the middle of the row of cars then turned off the the road into the turn off and sideswiped him and he went flying. Fortunately did not see it happen as my wife would of totally lost it.

Hairy (and others who may be interested), just for future reference. Are you aware that you can get a day pass at the booth on the hout bay side of Chappies which allows you to go up as far as the last right hander before heading to the top lookout point? It's free and in Summer at least, is valid until 8pm. Quite nice if you want just a short ride without having to pay.

Glad everyone is OK (and for wearing gear), things can quickly go wrong on motorcycling, they are not forgiving at all. This is something I hope to never come across on our WhatsApp group of friends, see one of our mates on the side of the road.

Keep safe out there. On my first crash (wasn't a driver's fault - wet tar or oil on the road) going around a circle, I just realised yet again how quickly an accident can happen.

Had no idea, thanks for the heads up.

R35.00 for the trip on a motorbike felt fair for a once off crossing from Noordhoek to HB, but not something I would want to repeat unnecessarily on a regular basis.
