Sign up for midmar....its a jol.....we smack each other silly sprinting for the first 150m meters until we find someone with good pace, that can swim straight to draft behind!

So I can change from being a wheel sucker to be a toe sucker??!!?

Same here, been riding for a year and dropped 15kg. Legs look awesome now... upper body not much so I decided to start swimming. Seems to be doing the trick without putting on too much bulk. Only problem is that I am now having delusions of doing the iron man!

That's what scares me too. It's tough enough to have a life without throwing Iron Man into the mix.

If you wanna ride like Froomey, you gotta look like Froomey. If you just a fun rider, by all means get more muscle on the upper body, cos then we wont have to worry about you at the front on the climbs......

Do Push-ups, Tabata style.....As long as you use muscle, it wont atrophy. Most of us have more fat on our bodies than we realise and unless you can go for a DEXA scan, then you will know if you really lost muscle on your upperbody.

FWIW, i dont think we lose as much muscle as the supplement companies out there say we do. Remember, when cycling, your upperbody is being used as well, although not as intensely as your leg, its used enough for your body to keep it as it is being used regularly.

There's a Midmar down the road from me. I go there sometimes. I often don't think much of swimming when I go there.

So, I've been riding quite seriously for about a year. I've been training really hard on the bike and my IDT fro the last 6 months.

I've now dropped 2 kilograms and my legs are getting stronger.

But, my upper body is starting to look like Chris Froome's - white, pasty and without any muscles or definition. Yuk

I'm currently doing cycle training 4 or 5 days a week. Does anyone have any brilliant suggestions with regard to training my upper body so I don't look like a wimp, when I take my shirt off?

I'm 50, done some weight training previously and spent some time in the gym.

Don't need this fancy stuff.......a pair of chains with grips will also do.

Use Google ("suspension training") to find exercises.

(Warning/Disclaimer: might stumble on some NSFW sites..........sorries BoB)
