August Winds - Training

good chance you could end up in Springbok

I wish. I can and have done 10 hour rides. Even at 40km/g average, that would still only get me 400km away from home. Oh hell, I see, there is no way the wife is going to drive that far to come and fetch me. Plan B. Do I have any friends that would do it? Only if I pay them in good wine! :D

Or Alexanderbaai. Now that would be a stage race to consider. Enough gravel and mountains to do it too.

I took the motorbike this morning. Had a few things that I do not want to commute with. Was scary to have that BMW blown about. Not looking forward to this afternoon, as winds are hectic out there.

I hate the wind. It blows up dust, and then I can't see. So hoping tomorrow morning will be a great morning out. First time in weeks I will take the MTB out.

Yup this year they are on Q here in Gauteng. This morning the wind was howling and thank my behind I was not cycling. Doing my usual route would have seen me very late for work.

Hill training has it's benefits, right. How beneficial is it to train in wind. Seeing as time is limited I know that my distance will go down in the next few weeks if it continues to blow outside.

Wanted to do my 130 km tomorrow but fear that dream might just fade away when I wake up tomorrow.

How do you guys handle the wind and training.

Now I know why some people call The Argus, The August!

The wind separates the weak from the strong.

Train in it as often as possible.

Evident in the Pro Tour too.

Yeah the windy days are the best, put them in the gutter when there's a side wind, and watch the weak ones pop out the back!!!

A few weeks ago, had a strong wind from the left, I knew there was a right turn up ahead, went to the front and Steeked it for about 1km, looked back and there was about 6 out of +-50 left!!!

You would hate Cape Town, here you don't check IF the wind is blowing before you ride, you check which direction is the wind blowing before you ride.

A bit like Kite-surfing?

Now that is a plan. Kite cycling. I can see the headlines in the newspaper. Disaster

Would you say a heavier guy with more power will do better than a skinny guy with less power into the wind. Is it about cadence or power??
