Hmm. Any bets?

For some reason (and I don't know why I'd doubt him) I don't think he gets even close.

Ja, very different event this year. But should be fun!

At this stage I still can't bend my leg, walking around like a pirate. So smart money is on Nov 2020 having been soooo 2020-ish... it seems I've moved past the denial phase.

Hows it looking?

I can summarise it very easily, but this is a family show.

Fortunately no serious damage like full rupture, but cruciate ligaments are not my happy friend at this moment. They got a bit of a knock or a twist or something.
Swelling is down significantly. With that, interestingly, the pain went up. Maybe because I started to move around my leg a bit. Still semi-pirate...

Definitely not running tomorrow. Not happy. Plans was to run with a buddy.

I may be able to drive myself to the treatment this afternoon with the new-found semi flexibility. Hoping to get to do low-resistance indoor ride or two done over the weekend. And it is a BEAUT outdoors... sunny and windless.

Current record is 303.506km by Yiannis Kouros set in 1997.

Fun fact: Yiannis came to SA to run a 100km race in Stellies in 1988. Only when he was here did he learn about apartheid. He started the race but pulled out a km from the finish line (from the lead) so that his name would not appear on the records, in rebellion to apartheid laws.

Shortly thereafter at a 24 hour race in the UK the organisers found out about his SA race entry and DQ'd him based on their anti-apartheid stance.

Same thing almost happened again at a race in Aus but he managed to sign a UN petition denouncing the SA apartheid laws and was then eventually allowed to race again.

Killian pulled out after 134kms. So ja.

Theres a Norwegian chap though who's smoking national records. 12 hour (I don't know the distance) , and a 12:46 100 mile. Edit :in fact he may also have dropped now

Hey guys, anyone know if an official statement has been released with regards to the Two Oceans next year ? I can't find anything online and I assume everyone will need to qualify which means time is running out and it probably won't happen next year in April ?

I was also wondering this. I unwrapped my 2020 shirt the other day and thought 'sjoe, 2021 would be 4 months away...'

I'm going about like it will happen as I have the Tusker 230 miler in June/July (hopefully), so this is a good 'long run' and good mileage for me.

If it doesn't happen it will be a pity, but for me, not a train smash.

I am not sure the Two Oceans company can survive 2 years without an event. With no headline sponsor and the company already in financial trouble, it may be a bridge too far.

One can only hope

No statement has been released. I'm guessing whatever they do they will probably have to waive the qualification criteria.

I'm not actually sure whose rule the qualification criteria is. If its theirs, then easy to just make next year an exception. If its an ASA rule then they would have to get approval from them I suppose.

Found these old ASA rules and they don't mention anything about qualification (I am referring to the 56km race)

Just saw the entry limit for 21km + 56km is 29 000 people so I doubt the race will be open to the public maybe just a few pro's like some of the international races did earlier this year

Some more photos running today again, last time it was autumn with all the autumn colours and leaves

Lately we have had cold temps (2 - 5 degC) and some moisture which resulted in 2 snow falls this week.

Needless to say its a bit slushy out there at the moment

At least these type of paths are kept reasonably clear by the little tree fairy snow plough's

The top of the bridge is not cleared by the snow plough, so the snow doesn't go onto the hiway below

29000 is still a heck of a lot of people.

It will likely be 17k half and 12k full.

In 2019 13906 people started the full and 17348 started the half... It's hardly a change in over all numbers if they limit it to 29000

I saw articles that say they expect a Covid vaccine roll out in SA in June-July. I think all events will have to adhere to the same small field regulations till the vaccine has time to have an impact.

First roll out is for 10% of the population only .... at a few billion rand ....

Going to be a good while longer before the tide turns .... sadly so.

Only hope is the multiple meds in stage 3 trials ... with any luck more are approved, and the roll out is sped up ....
