SwissVan Posted February 9, 2018 Posted February 9, 2018 ForkitI'm definitely undertrained compared to you lotMy run / walk km's so far for 2018
Mudsimus Posted February 11, 2018 Posted February 11, 2018 Some insane mileage this week. I didn’t even get close to a top 10. That said I had a look at the Comrades international Strava group, wtf are those guys on. Mr Winter, Pulse and Lexx 3
SeaBee Posted February 12, 2018 Posted February 12, 2018 What chased you guys this week?! Fortunately I can claim I tapered!
coppi Posted February 12, 2018 Posted February 12, 2018 I am looking at buying a treadmill, what make/type should I look out for and what should I avoid ?
tjommies3 Posted February 12, 2018 Posted February 12, 2018 It was my last week of my understanding of high mileage. It's all downhill to OMTOM now. I will probably never be in the top 10 again. Felt good doing my own marathon yesterday, so I am very happy :-) Hacc and Barry Stuart 2
candz1 Posted February 12, 2018 Posted February 12, 2018 I did the Hillcrest half marathon yesterday on Stretch's recommendation. I am so glad I did it. Stunning route and perfect weather conditions (drizzle and cool) but I would imagine that even if not drizzling it would be so nicely shaded with those beautiful avenues of trees. My sub 2 kinda fell apart about 3km to go, Ive battled with hip bursitis for almost a year now and it kicked in! But im so glad I did that run, thank you Stretchy, will definately make sure I do it again, finished in 2:07..so maybe next year. PMB21 coming up in 2 weeks so need to get htis hip sorted! dave303e Posted February 12, 2018 Posted February 12, 2018 I am looking at buying a treadmill, what make/type should I look out for and what should I avoid ? You live in Northcliff, we have some of the best running right from our doorsteps, buy 2x pairs of shoes and forget the treadmill... Mr Winter, Ferret69 and tjommies3 3
coppi Posted February 12, 2018 Posted February 12, 2018 You live in Northcliff, we have some of the best running right from our doorsteps, buy 2x pairs of shoes and forget the treadmill...Been cycling for 10 years and loving it, I want to add a bit of running to try loose a bit of belly.Been advised that to start running at 48 is not a great idea and bad for the joints, I have had an ACL replacement on my knee............

Do yourself a favour and go run on the spruit/in bot gardens off of the tar, start walking and then add running short stints to build into it, you can run on the grass next to the path for even softer under foot conditions. For me a treadmill is far harsher on the joints than a nice smooth trail or running on grass, it is also free so if in 6 months you decide it is not good for your knees you won't be stuck with a clothes rack. coppi 1
Jaws677 Posted February 12, 2018 Posted February 12, 2018 I did the PnP marathon yesterday. First moan: They had a honesty seeding system for the race. Basically four boards with expected race times. I fell in behind the 4 hour board. 5 minutes before the start the 4h bus driver comes pushing past everyone. I ask him where he is going as all the 4 hour runners should behind the 4h board. He basically told me to **** off and they can catch up. I saw his little flag end up just behind the elites. I took me 5km into the race before I was able to run a straight line, the first 5km was dodging walkers. Honesty seeding in RSA - get real people, from now on Ill join the selfish assholes and line up in the front. Second moan - Vitality Running Club The biggest mistake I made was not joining my local running club but Vitality running club instead in an effort to save a buck or two. Worst club ever. Every race I RSVP for the tent, every time I get to the tent the 21km runners and non-RSVP members have eaten everything. You never get a spot under the tent – just too many members. Yesterday I get there, they have fridge full of food. I ask for a sandwich. No sir those are for Halaal members who RSVP`ed – But I RSVP sorry sir nothing left for you only Halaal members . I used to run for Sunninghill, it was awesome we all knew each other support at races were amazing, really miss the comrade. I can`t wait for next year to join a proper running club again. I wish I didn’t have to running with Vitality colors at Comrades this year. Hacc, Mr Winter, Andrew Steer and 1 other 4
Lexx Posted February 12, 2018 Posted February 12, 2018 You can cancel resign from your club. Pulse and ScottCM 2

Same age and I started running 2-3 years ago. Feeling much better than I did when just cycling. Start easy, build up slowly. Run trails, the little less repetitive nature of terrain helps a lot. But first build up running fitness! Have fun. But start slowly and build up gradually. Otherwise you're looking for trouble, no matter what your age is. Lexx and coppi 2
Mudsimus Posted February 12, 2018 Posted February 12, 2018 Did my first half marathon for the year, started relatively slow, not by choice, my legs just didn’t want to turnover. I think that Comrades training is making my legs lazy????. From about 8km it got better and I could maintain close to sub 5/min km and ran an easy negative split to finish in 1h45, a 3min PB. For me that is quite quick, and good to know that the training is paying off. Barry Stuart, Ferret69, Andrew Steer and 7 others 10
