Awesome! A good excuse to visit a new country!

I'm doing Berlin Marathon this year. Anybody here with tips for Berlin? Accommodation recommendations, must see attractions etc.

Last time I went to Berlin you could still see a clear divide between the East and the West and there was still significant sections of wall up. That said it is an incredible city with plenty to do and see. Berlin is one of the faster marathons i think...

Has anyone tried Maurten sports drinks yet?

https://maurtenfuel.co.za/

It is now available in SA and it seems they will have a stand at the Comrades Marathon Expo.

The drink is used by some of the best runners who supposedly don't get financial benefits for using the product. Eliud Kipchoge, Geoffrey Kirui, Galen Rupp, Desiree Linden, Mo Farrah etc etc. all use Maurten.

Looks like very similar ingredients used in the Asker Jeukendrup's recipe as was discussed on bikehub.

Wow. It's very expensive. Seems very similar to High 5 though. Would be easier to get in high amounts of carbs purely from liquid.

Hmmmm..."Hydrogels"..?

The drink instantly converts to hydrogel in the acidity of the stomach, encapsulating the carbohydrates. The hydrogel then enables a smooth transportation of the sports drink through the stomach to the intestine where the water, salt and carbohydrates are absorbed.

They'll have to show me a peer reviewed medical study proving that these hydrogels work before I believe thats its just purely marketing claims with no real basis.

And if all it is is a similar recipe to Maltrodextrin + Dextrose/Fructose (2:1) then why on earth would I pay so much for it when I can get those raw products at a fraction of the cost?

In summary...I don't believe.

And here I am stressing out about how I am going to complete the 1 x 90km...

22 May 2018 Cape Town to Comrades ➡️ 90km a day for 20 days!

Ran with Hazel Moller the other day. She runs 10 x 90 km's in 10 days (The 10th day being the comrades).

She does it for charity. Insane amount of running, don't know how these people do it??

I strongly believe they are shortening their running lifespan.

She's be doing it for years... this must be her 5th at least

I ran Comrades with the one guy who did it with her, I think he was the only one that actually managed the whole thing... crazy mental strength. Their joints must be made out of something special too

I’m in Gauteng this week & entered for the Hercules SuperSpar 10k aka AGN Champs on Saturday. Anyone else running?

Some advice needed for our seconders on Comrades this year....assuming they will want to see us 3 times along the route (and then at the finish obviously). From a nutrition point of view I'd imagine I only need to seem them at around 30kms and then again at 60kms so third "visit" will be purely a cheerleading one.

We're staying in PMB on Sat night...where are the best places along the route for them to meet us? All recommendations and past experience welcome.
