I see a 15 year old girl - Tierney Wolfgram did a 2:40 marathon at the twin cities marathon this weekend to finish sixth among the elite women.

Are 15 year olds allowed to run a marathon? Clearly they are.. But..I thought there was an age limit related to kids legs and hips developing and the potential damage that a marathon can cause

Chicago Marathon this weekend, pity for this race, it was always going to be a bit of a drag after the Berlin screamer.

 

Gwen Jorgensen almost 20 mins behind winner.. Press was definitely talking her up a lot more than this time. Brigid Kosgei waaaaay too good for the ladies. She looked unstoppable.

 

Galen Rupp too, talked a good game, ran his same time as Prague where he won, but looked pretty pedestrian in this field. 

 

Mo Farah, classy classy runner.

FWIW, I have the 735, so this adds to the posts quoted.

 

I bought it, rather than a cycle-specific, computer because one can’t wear a cycle computer during day. I’ve owned 4 different models of the Forerunner series and loved each one during its time.

 

Being a cyclist (with a recently found running problem), I wanted something that was power-meter compatible, wrist-based HR and not too expensive - hence the reason I didn’t go for the Fenix series.

 

The 235 and 735 are pretty much the same device, with (obvious) subtle differences. In hindsight, I’m glad I bought it (in 2016), as it’s perfect for both running and cycling, and of course swimming.

 

I’ve since added three data fields... that shows up to 9 metrics on one screen. The HR and Cadence are also zone based, so the colour changes to match the zone.

 

Cycling

Cadence, HR (% of LTHR), Speed, Distance, Ave Spd, Elapsed time, total Ascent, Time of day and current elevation.

All are fully customizable, but the last one is perfect for me:

  • Enter race distance;
  • Estimated finish time;
  • Seconds used to calculate pace “XX seconds”.

The output is 7 key metrics showing one screen. I know where to look for each metric even on such a small screen.

I'm going to SBR in Sunninghill for a little run analysis next week, So I'll report back then. I want to find out whats happening with my feet.. (literally). I've heard good things about Mike

Went this past saturday.  Very happy with the outcome, he showed me my Brooks Glycerine were causing me to pronate slightly as they very soft, this was causing a lot of the lower leg issues i've been having.  When he gave me some ghosts and saucony ride 10 to try you could see the leg straighten out.  Also gave me a bunch of strength and stretch exercises.  Thanks for the recommendation.

I also have the previous Vaporfly launched in Feb'18... worth every cent... IMHO

For interest sake, how many km's does those soles give?

So far my Original pair is on about 390kms (all just Racing and Tempo/TT sessions), was keeping them under 400kms just in case the new VF Flyknit didn't arrive in time for Amsterdam.

 

The bounce and plate still feels great, I would think a Minimum of 600kms..

What's the low down on running with differing heights of heel drop? 

 

Personally I'll be switching between trail and road - zero drop trail and I think the new road Brooks are 10mm(?). Anyone else run in different heights interchangeably?

 

Will it help strengthen calves, feet, or does it put strain on the tendons/muscles?

If you are coming from a lower drop (zero drop), moving to a higher (eg 10mm) it should be a non-event.

Going the other way might be (usually is) an event ... which should be managed carefully

Yeah...I switched to lower drop and got shin splints. Dove straight in and did my weekly runs on the lower drop and my long weekend one on my attenders shoes. Just one week and I started getting shin splints. Filed them away for after Amsterdam and will them introduce them slowly
