Iron Posted January 31, 2019 Posted January 31, 2019 I have just entered for Loskopdam marathon. Lets hope I do not regret it.Training started last night.you did not even say hello sisss
Dirkitech Posted January 31, 2019 Posted January 31, 2019 I'm not too fussed with the exact accuracy of the HR. To be honest, the biggest use I get out of it is monitoring fatigue or oncoming and outgoing sickness, etc. using the resting HR reading. I've found that it's extremely accurate at predicting an oncoming cold and handy for telling me when I can get to running again. I seldom use it on a run but if I do check in I only need to know roughly which zone I'm in (and that I'm not going too fast for the purpose of the run) rather than the exact HR.TIL another useful idea for hr
Mats Posted January 31, 2019 Posted January 31, 2019 you did not even say hello sisssDid not see you last night. Only saw on Strava you were also there. You are flying! Iron 1
JuddMan Posted February 1, 2019 Posted February 1, 2019 Congrats on your first 21k! Brilliant! I still remember the stiffness after my first 21k during a period when I wasn't doing much running at all...it was something else. Some light rolling will help but don't do anything too hectic too soon. A very gentle jog the day or two days after also helps. And well done on joining a real club! Far better than the virtual clubs Thanks very much. Haven't run this week unfortunately due to work commitments but going out for a run or 2 this weekend. I did do some foam rolling which helped, nothing with too much pressure. and thanks! BNAC has always been our 'home' club growing up with my brothers playing football there and myself with other sports. But what do you mean by virtual clubs?

They don't have a clubhouse and weekly runs. You basically pay R475 for a running vest and your CGA licence. They do have a gazebo at some races. Edit: My bad, I see they do have clubhouses. Not sure if they have Time Trials etc. Edited February 1, 2019 by Hacc Lexx 1
candz1 Posted February 1, 2019 Posted February 1, 2019 Thanks guys for the advice about the positioning of the FR235. It worked this morning, little tighter and above the wrist bone. I have started using my HR on the suggestion of a trainer that I was talking to the other night. She said that we have to teach ourselves to run in anarobic and aerobic stages when applicable. The LSD runs should not be in the red...and for me, thats pretty hard because I tend to have a high heart rate...now that I am trying to work it out...I am finding that I am enjoying the runs. Interesting you say that, My GF's heartrate is stupidly high as well, even on the lsd's.
SeaBee Posted February 1, 2019 Posted February 1, 2019 I'm also in the high max HR gang... it is what it is. Just work on the correct formula from your max HR and don't worry about what the BPM is relative to other people. (They'll just freak out and rush you to hospital! )

We did an FTP test once and the studio owner was legitimately hovering around him for when he was going to drop dead. Dirkitech 1

It’s important that you work out your Training HR zones according to your specific running max HR or lactic threshold HR, and not the standard age based calculation.
candz1 Posted February 1, 2019 Posted February 1, 2019 I must say that it is hard to keep it in the orange and not red...but when I do make the effort to keep it controlled, it makes a whole heap of difference to the rest of my day and my legs. The trick according to this trainer, is to keep it controlled without doing the run/walk thing...so important is rhythm...she says as the " km base" gets stronger, so the pace will come without pushing heart rate into red all the time. Bear in mind, im almost 50 and only been running 3 years, so with my running, I found I would get to a point and then get injured, that is why ive been told to build a strong running base with LSD runs based on heart rate zones, and 1 speed session of about 30 mins, which is a time trial or sprints within a chilled run. I have a fairly accurate idea of my max, which is not that far off the age one surprisingly. Andrew Steer 1
Odinson Posted February 1, 2019 Posted February 1, 2019 The watch in relation to the wrist bone 130BPM is crazy high for Z1! Did you have a strap on (kindly note the lack of a dash) at the time? Saag and Dirkitech 2
Odinson Posted February 1, 2019 Posted February 1, 2019 I used to always run in the Z4-Z5, chasing pace more than anything else. I've now started building on my aerobic base. Running whilst keeping my HR at <140bpm. I started off setting the treadmill on 8.5km/h (which is sooooo slow), but within about a month, I'm already at 9.5km/h averaging about 138bpm. The idea is to build to around 11-12km/h at around Z2-Z3 for long runs, but this takes time.
candz1 Posted February 1, 2019 Posted February 1, 2019 This is exactly how it was described to me...she said not to forget about doing some speed work...but really concentrate on the HR zone over distance. So now what I do, i walk with a friend who is doing rehab and she does 5 min brisk walk and 5 min run and that 5 min run is fast and in the red...so far so good.... Yeah, I haven't really been doing speed work recently. Should start incorporating it into my routine. I've only recently started running in the mornings, so my body is now only slowly getting into the rhythm of 'waking up' enough to get good runs in.
