tjommies3 Posted October 7, 2019 Posted October 7, 2019 Ouch! That Maurten stuff ain't cheap. I'd like to keep it simple for an upcoming marathon, something like a date and nut bar, but chewing and running might be an issue. I bite smaller portions more often because if you take it at the wrong time, like whilst struggling to breathe, you will choke.
Iron Posted October 7, 2019 Posted October 7, 2019 When it comes to fuels its always tricky as we all react differently to products. For me its been cyctomax for yours but of late my Mrs and I have been using Tailwind and must say its been fine for us .
L46 Posted October 7, 2019 Posted October 7, 2019 Always do the math of how many litres of Coke you can buy for the same price, it will possibly take you further

Edgar Posted October 7, 2019 Posted October 7, 2019 Thanks, yes, I will test it before my marathon. I had a terrible "loo" run on Saturday because I tried a new product. I know you have tried lots of different options. It might be worth giving Future Life a try. I mix a table spoon of the powder in a zip lock and run with that. When I need fuel i'll mix it with water and then bite a hole in the corner and squeeze it out. Easy on the stomach and hydrating at the same time. A new discovery was the Adapt Nut+Seed bars. They have them at Jacksons Real Food. Lexx, Hacc, candz1 and 1 other 4

I eat Future Life before my runs, never thought of running with it.
candz1 Posted October 7, 2019 Posted October 7, 2019 I think id also be keen to try this Future life idea. I run with nothing, grab a water sachet as I go passed a table and I realised when I did Cape Town marathon that perhaps I need to drink something more than water and eat something...
L46 Posted October 7, 2019 Posted October 7, 2019 Vanzweel is this you? Hahaha thank goodness not, I was just joking with the coke statement. I retract the word "Coke" in my first statement and replace it with "biltong" to avoid any confusion with that redneck. :-)

candz1 Posted October 7, 2019 Posted October 7, 2019 You have a unrefined, cheap palate Stretch hahahaha...Futurelife is the best!
Jewbacca Posted October 7, 2019 Posted October 7, 2019 Supplements are a funny thing. All the stupid things I have done on foot and on the bike or paddling etc I have steered away from most of the products. For long stuff (6hours plus) on the trail I take a bottle on Ensure and get through that early on. I then drink water and if it's a super long day I take some Game powder for a last 5-10km kick. I try to rather eat real food like cheese and biltong and fruit and a sandwich. My stomach falls apart on gu and tailwind and hammer and and and... It's just not good at dealing with science made in a lab. Electrolyte drinks like drip drop are good on a multi day race accompanied by food. There is no magic formula that substitutes time on your feet and the right training. I will smash some avocado and chocolate blended up and put into sachets for a road marathon. That will put a spring in your step! L46 1
dave303e Posted October 7, 2019 Posted October 7, 2019 I find you need to match your food to your intensity. When I am flat out then Gu Gels or tailwind. If my hr is 150-165 I can get down jelly babies, energdade jelleys, date bombs soft foods etc.Below 150 then real food works best. But ya each to their own... L46 1
Stretch Posted October 7, 2019 Posted October 7, 2019 You have a unrefined, cheap palate Stretch hahahaha...Futurelife is the best!I battle with anything like that... Can't do pronutro either..or banana...or butternut... Anything with that dense texture
Edgar Posted October 7, 2019 Posted October 7, 2019 My gawd that sounds revolting...I struggle with future life at the best of times... During a run I would never handle it Stretch, you are just a lot more sophisticated than I am.
Edgar Posted October 7, 2019 Posted October 7, 2019 I battle with anything like that... Can't do pronutro either..or banana...or butternut... Anything with that dense texture A lot of people battle with the lactose powder in Pro Nutro. That's why the futurelife mix is in liquid form, nothing to chew your way through.
