This made me think - how does one handle such a situation when you cant stop? Go past head or tail, or through the middle? Bunny hop? Ride over it and hope it doesn't catch the spokes? Would love to hear others stories.

if it is stretched out ,just ride past the rear end if you don't touch it it is very likely to strike. But always bear in mind puffies can strike backwards.

Yeah i have a windbuks but i was thinking what if the first shot didn't kill it. Wont be able to reload fast enough and then the mannetjie would have been angry!! Don't want a half dead angry cobra chasing me down the hallway while i am trying to shoot it again. Scene from a dodgy B rated movie...

Thanks for all the concerns about the second snake, (al try julle my net bang(er) praat) asked the wrangler about it as well as someone told me they run in pairs but because he is so young he said he wouldn't have a mate yet.

He said the odds that there is another one in the house 2%, the odds that there is another one outside the house 95%...

Puffies you can still ride around and Avoid them, but i live in an area that's full of Black Mamba's. There is no ways to try and ride around them. I would rather jump of my bike and let my bike hit him than to take a chance....

Out at Howick / Karkloof the other day exploring the trails. It was real hot.  Came across a trail with a name board 'Puff adder trail'.  Looked cool so headed off over the rocks. Few meters down the trail my imagination got the better of me.  Thinking there must have been a reason what they called it that.  Turned around and headed back but every piece of bark, stick or log thereafter looked dodge.

I would just ride with Reg Lizard. He can handle snakes.

Hahaha...who will ever forget that thread...hell was it a 40 pager

Cool sory Lerouc,  I had a good chuckle at that story even more so after meeting you at Trailseeker 4. The bit about the farm workers had me in stitches. I once had a snake in my house on my dad's farm while the wife and I were watching the Sunday night M-Net movie back in the day. I have NEVER seen a woman bek@k herself like that before, or since. It made for some interesting dynamics. Unfortunately I had to end it with a spade. on another occasion I unloaded a 5 shot magazine of a .22 rifle on a Boomslang with no effect. I ended up spearing the poor guy.

That was the last time I killed a snake, about 10 years or so ago.
