Someone wanting to buy my Scott Spark

Ok, so there's this guy who must be a member of Bikehub, as my number on my ad's are only available to members...

This Guy Elias, messages me (SMS) to say he's interested in the Scott Spark I have for sale, so I replied and told him that it's still available...

To which I get another reply: "I'm waiting for your bank details"   :o

Either he knows me very well and the condition of the bike or the spec of the bike that there's no need for any questions to be asked regarding the condition, etc... or he's just not bothered but wants the bike bad enough...

Eish... This deal is too good to be true... I'm going to take him up on his offer...   What you guys think...

Here's his number: Elias - 0837992796

This is firstly why i dont put my cell phone number on any adds.

Secondly, give him your details. if it is paid in, phone your bank and check that it is there and get the bank to say on the recording that the other guy can't take it back.

Thirdly, wait another week and if money still there give him the bike.

Or ask for cash, or go with him to the bank to do a transfer in the bank from his account to yours and make him pay extra to clear and get confirmation in the bank that the money is in your account and only then go fetch the bike form home where it is locked in a secure place.

I had a discussion with someone else about buying/selling secondhand stuff on FB and Gumtree (here as well) i always meet the people in public places and i prefer a big petrol station. Because its 99.9% sure they have WORKING cameras up and i make sure we talk in a spot that a camera is pointing so that it can get his registration number of the vehicle he arrived in and his face at least.

This time of the year is the scammers favourite.

Being a member on here doesnt mean much, it only takes a few seconds to create an account. The scammers are never interested in the condition, they just want to make a fake deposit and send "someone" to collect...

Scam, don't waste your time in trying to make a deal work. If you say you only want cash he will come up with some or other story on why he can only pay by eft and his son/friend will collect.

I agree with Lerouc, give hime your details for him to make payment.

Wait for it to clear, call the bank to confirm. I doubt it would get this far though.

Asking cash is also a good way to what the story is.
