my 2c: a material defect in the freehub body that fractured. Hub might be a casting that was machined down, instead of being forged. That thing looks like it went for a spin in a grinder. what's with all the notches/dents on it?

Novatec?

Droo, you have me worried with this Novatec thing. In your line of work, do you see this happening that often?

What would be the alternative for this price range?

I thought Novatec was not the best but better than most.

I could be mistaken.

This

NOvatec is generally pretty good. Could be a bad run or they change suppliers. Seems the freehub body material is too soft

Their older freebodies had too little material in the area of the fracture in the photo, and breakages are quite common. You can get a steel freebody which solves the issue though.

They're decent hubs but have had a few reliability issues with certain models.

I have a novatec and hop hubs. They are chalk and cheese.  The novatec has an ugly rattle. The hopes are pretty new still but it is really a huge difference between them.

can't believe we comparing hopes and novatecs... Novatec has really come a long way then!

and for less than half the price, think i'm selling my hopes for some!

If you had just had the bearings replaced, perhaps the driver was not installed into the hub correctly?

Product failure half and hour after working on it, is less likely. More probably some sort of error in installation.
