You made me go and google that... turns out I made a weapon for strangling pieces of spinning wood!

You are going to get orders for making those......insist on the buyer signing an indemnity form  ;)

I turned and finished the jr gent pen I started last night, was quite something figuring out how to assemble it.

The arcylic was possibly the worst type to turn, super brittle and just generally unpleasant. I used epoxy to glue the tubes in and then turned the majority with a skew because anything else would just cause chipping.

Its one of those ones where you really have to see it to appreciate how awesome that blank is, the pics dont really do it justice. In general I prefer wood but this was a nice change and it was the biggest blank I had.

Next time I will be changing the shape profile and slimming it down a bit, this was the first pen of this type I have turned and the nib section looks tiny compared to the body.

I have a fountain pen kit of the same type that I will probably tackle this evening, just need to decide which blank Im going to use on it.

VERY nice. ( Who else had a quick flash-back of the bikini clad girl losing her bikini when the pen is held upside down. Def.no connection to your stunning pen and no offence meant ).

Haha! I didnt get that flashback but those pens were cool.

Im pretty hard to offend so it would take a whole lot more than that.

Lekker man. I have a couple of pen kits I'm tackling soon. A handfull Jr Gentleman, a box of slimlines and I think a couple of cigars as well. I'm making a set of pens out of that Ironwood I'm using for that other project - think it may go as a nice gift with the project. Will see .... I salvaged quite a few Ironwood, Yellowwood and Hardepeer offcuts into pen blanks - probably at least 20 of each species.

I was surprised by the jr gent, its a very easy pen to turn in the end but a huge mission to start off.

Man it would be such an awesome touch to send a set of pens with that project you are doing, Im sure the people would be massively stoked with that.

I never really get to work with decent hardwoods so Im buying pen blanks until I can start making my own from offcuts. I also want to look into getting a pressure pot, lots of resin ideas I want to try out.

Sigh. Ordered more pen kits from Mr Woodturner. I don't really have time (right now) to spend on stuff I don't have buyers for right now .... but shew. With the new workshop being so clean and light it's just a blessing to be able to work.

I cant even recall how many times I have done that. I still have not sold a single pen(not that I have tried to) they have all been gifts but I will eventually get around to making some to sell.

Which kits did you order? I have turned the Orion, JR gent, cigar, slimline and Euro ones so far. Was considering Churchill but dont want to buy the weird sized drill bits for it.

On a side note I glued and trimmed a white Ironwood blank last night... that thing was so hard the barrel trimmer didnt even want to cut into it, was just annoying the wood rather than cutting. I ended up using a parting tool to trim it.

Got some Jr Gentlemen (again), euro, teacher (first one as a test) as well as a bunch of slimlines - the slims normally sell pretty fast to the right crowd. Just make sure to use an 'African' wood ... lol. Ie Kiaat, but call it Mukwa (it's Zimbabwean name)

I've got a bunch of blanks lying around from various projects - from Teak to Stinkwood to Yellowwood and Ironwood and Zebrano ... they just need to be turned.

I'm sure it won't be an issue to find a buyer. One of my favorite pens is a hand turned pen I bought years ago in Nottingham road, going on the 3rd or 4th refill for it.

Most likely your own fault there...

If these pens come in at a decent price my hand would be up for 2 immediately.

Honestly I havent made enough to have any to sell yet, once I turned the first one then every family member and most friends all wanted them!

I gave away at least 10 slimlines at Christmas alone. Im finally busy turning myself a pen, its a wild olive fountain pen. I have always wanted a fountain so figured I would make one.

one bonus about making your own presents...you get to have fun making them...then you dont have to blow tons of cash of presents.

one year i made 100 planters and went around to old age homes to hand them out to people who didnt have visitors.

what an absolutely terrible task...will never do it again...i left there with a massive dent in my heart...i thought it would make me feel good about doing something nice for the people ...instead i felt so *** meeting these old people who have nothing left and nobody to visit them...they were so happy someone had bought a gift...i think i will make them again this year...but get some else to hand them out.

Been busy with this project for far too long now, eventually got it finished today. I was worried that with the glass top going onto it, and a vase or two filled with water, that the weight would put too much stress on the half lap joint in the middle of the X (legs are 2180mm end to end, so lots of leverage), so decided to put a steel cable in to support. I’m happy with the final outcome, hope the owner is too, will post a pic once delivered and installed in his entrance hall, with the top on!

Said I’d post a pic of the final product, so here it is!
