And here's my favourite part,

"In March 2015, veld fires devastated large parts of the Cape Peninsula. Today, with strict security in place, the only way to get into the upper section of Tokai Park is if you are a mountain biker (weekends only), bird, baboon, or forester..."

..because what can I say, instead of bitching and moaning or protesting with unrealistic expectations, we quietly got on with what needed to be done.

Ha, I skimmed it and missed that part :-)

i believe a rider fell yesterday, and the ambulance was stuck at the gate because of the prison fences being locked?

the rider is doing ok, "very bad concussion didn't know where he was, hand and right shoulder injured...but he'll be okay"

I'll let Deon answer this one, but when I left Deon had been waiting at least 45 min a the picnic area for the ambulance to arrive.

There was a huge group riding there yesterday. Some memorial ride. Chatted to a couple of guys and they were complaining that riding up is not easy at all despite being told Tokai is easy.

LOL - it wasn't them. That ride was in memory of the cyclist that died on Glencairn Express Way.

The guy that fell was with another group - I spoke to one of mates and he seemed "okay" when we left - he was able to get and walk.

You have been fed a bit of a whopper there...

Yes a rider fell and an ambulance was called (from 10111) but after over an hour of waiting with no sign of it arriving another ambulance was called from ER24. That ambulance, along with a separate *fast response* paramedic arrived within minutes.

The ambulance was met at the gates by a TokaiMTB committee member and directed up to the injured rider.

Another committee member, along with the SANParks duty ranger, was waiting with the rider and his friends and coordinating the evacuation.

Only when the rider was in the ambulance and on his way out of the park did the other ambulance actually show up and commence sitting at the gate. You know, when it was way too late. The only blame or fault here is with the absolutely chronic 'service' provided by 10111 and certainly not with Parks or their staff.

The rider was concussed but judging by the smiling photo we received last night he appears to be fine, if a little battered and bruised.

thanks for clearing that up, teammates rode there, they were there with the rider but the riders mates and SANParks was with him.

wasn't the lock gate, but there was a long wait!

So yes as a rider you are responsible for these kinds of things, but surely SANParks should to have contact for ER?

It was the duty ranger that, after discussion with me, called ER24.

mark: could the 10111 strike/ go-slow be the cause of that delay?

Very possible but the fact that the dispatcher was somewhat confused as to where Tokai was "Is that near Clovelly Road?" also doesn't fill me full of confidence that they would have been there much quicker without the strike.
