there is a cost associated.....but metal mesh cages over the signs?

It does help in slowing them down a little but 'fully baboon proof' would require locking them in a safe. And then hiding the safe.

They like stuff that can be ripped, chewed, separated then thrown in the bushes.

then maybe some nice sized rocks painted with appropriate signage, or is that not allowed?

I'm going to have a bit of a guess here but I think if you want to see SANPark's staff openly weeping that would be a good way to go  :w00t:

any chance the Tokai volunteers are willing to come assist cutting a trail on signal hill? Currently, it seems like only two guys are doing most of the work, and they've done very well thus far. But they could do with some work. Anyone know a Torsten (spelling?). lives up in my neck of the woods in Tamboerskloof.

There are workers in there at the moment but that sounds a little unusual, I will make sure the duty ranger is made aware of this.

Edit - If you see unusual activity or are 'man down' and stuck in Tokai due to a crash etc call our emergency number and because we have someone on duty during operating hours we can get through and assist pretty quickly.

The number is 071 424 4712

I have 0722368368 as Tokai emergency, is that number no longer in use? I will save the above number as well.

The metro rescue number is also useful to have on hand in the event of a medical emergency. 021 937 0300

final suggestion, and it will probably sink as I recall SAN Parks had design guidelines for the signage, but good old precast concrete posts with metal graphics on.....the greenies can even paint them fynbos green

what attracts the baboons to the signage? Why do they go vandalize them?

They're like children under five years old. "Storm" cases even acknowledge the destructive power of children under five. It's the only thing their warranty doesn't cover...

We stand no chance.

The do eventually get bored so attrition is our usual MO.

HAHA. I'm reminded of the tech students trying out their "baboon-proof" wheelie bins in Tokai. Was that ever a joke! Like such a design exists in the feeble human mind.

I kid you not, before the day was out the bins were wheeled head to head and turned into accommodation.

Yeah, there has been lots of thoughts on baboon proofing bins over the years.

It's their inherent desire for anarchy and the need to overthrow the current order. Metal plates telling them what to do be damned!

Like riders, riding up the down trails?
