The latest in the motorised doping saga: Typhoon Bikes

Smaller motors are hardly gonna be a deal breaker. 250 watts seems excessive. Give me 50 extra watts for 20 minutes and I'm in a whole new league of bike riders.

A sub 3 hour on World Funride Champs is now achievable to those with money[emoji10][emoji10]

Actually think you would see quite a few in the 40-50 age group and not the Pros.

Yip, that's the real target market for a company like Typhoon - the wealthy masters racer with a big ego and a 'win at all costs & crush the competition' corporate mentality. The ends always justify the means.

I had the privilege of a hipster on a e-chopper bicycle come whizzing by a while ago. Totally ruined my mojo for the segment I was on. But then I realised in lycra and a helmet I still had better style points.

So this is where things are headed in our sport.

The natural progression here is that we'll be lining up in our racing batches for our favourite local race, and among us will be a whole bunch of riders with these Typhoon bikes (and similar brands)  .

I've heard there are new technologies coming out that will catch these motors very easily, and from a relative distance. But that's for the pros. How are we going to expect your local race organiser to have the budget and capacity to police thousands of amateur bikes in a race?

Seriously, if we get to this point I will probably give up competing for good. What's the point?

The point of competing has always been to do the best you can do. I used to race a lot and I always felt awesome finishing any event knowing that I had tried my best, whether it was winning the race or, on one occasion, coming dead last in a criterium. Didn't matter - I'd done as well as I could.

Mountain biking teaches you that a bit, I think, because you are usually racing yourself more than you are others...competing is good for you, especially if you do it au naturel. The dudes who cheat are fooling themselves first, before they fool anyone else. That's just sad. That's also something I've learned from playing Call of Duty MW2. Sure you can hack, but who are you really fooling?

Would any of the teams at the TDF be so stupid or brazen as to actually deal with the Hungarian and start buying these motorised bikes from the guy??

.....or am I being doff?

Some of those teams were/are so stupid that they interfere with the natural chemistry of the human body in ways that can cause serious injury or death. The blood bags and experimental drugs etc is zombie horror stuff.

So a bit of fiddling with equipment is hardly going to be beyond the peloton...

I wonder if the Typhoon TANDEM will be available for export to SA .....

I need all the help I can get .....

Just kidding of course .

Remember in the pro peleton they don't use 2 water bottles like us fun riders .

So the tell tale sign of the higher water bottle won't be there .

Vino will order frames that only accomodate 1 bottle .

So, this bike adds an additional 250w to your existing power output?

@ R612/watt

Even with that I'm still below what would be considered enough to ride with the main manne so I guess I'll just keep slogging away for fun  :cursing:

The past weekend saw the annual Champagne & Oysters Cycling Club (C.O.C.C) ride from Saint Tropez to Monaco, raising funds for the Foundation Princess Charlene de Monaco.

In the presence of H.S.H. Prince Albert II of Monaco, Typhoon Bicycles Harry Gibbings & Russell Carty joined over 150 fellow C.O.C.C riders including ex F1 star Mika Hakkinen who was spotted on his Typhoon on the 140km ride back to Monaco to help raise funds and awareness for Princess Charlene’s foundation.
