[Event] The Swartberg100 Gran Fondo (Cancelled)

Cancelled because of a small rock garden... should have just made it an mtb race..

Shoee, if that is Eerste Water the damage is signficant and the pass will be, no pun intended, unpassable, perhaps doable on a MTB bit no way of getting logistics to the top for a water table or first aid.

Given what Meiringspoort will be like I see no alternative. People have died.

We had 26mm of rain in under 20 mins accompanied by winds that ripped branches off mature trees near there.

I regret it, but 2018 will be a definate.

Huge issue for the town not having water - hope they are more competent than the average municipality these days - are they declaring it a disaster zone?

Not sure about the water situation but organiser invited riders to come ride around the area anyway.

Waiting to see how much this is going to cost to cancel/re-schedule. Pattern emerging and I don't like it.  :cursing:  :cursing:  :cursing:  :cursing:

If you booked accommodation, still well worth going through and ride with John through the farms. It's beautiful there and the opportunity to ride through some of the farms for free don't land on your doorstep every day.

Was it an open invitation to all who entered?

From email received

Prince Albert is still a wonderful place to visit, so you can still spend the long weekend in the accommodation you have booked, explore the countryside, and enjoy the Olive and Food Market and other festivities. I will be organising a social ride on the Saturday the 29th that will take riders on a circular route through farmlands we have permission to ride on. I will look to provide a few options with pre-loaded GPS units for groups

Yes we are all disappointed, I think the organizer more than the participants but I thought you said you were going to sleep on it?
