Best is to ride pass the person standing and asked if all is okay while passing him.

Make sure you far enough not to hear his reply when passing him...lol

When I was still using tubes in my mtb, a few guys did it to me.,..haha

To be fair he was a bra who didn't have the courtesy to return your stuff.

*** style I know but don't gooi this on him being young. There's lots of lekker laaities that will help an oom out too. If someone young had a thread topic titled 'Don't help the out ou balle!' Well...

I agree with popcorn_skollie... Not all laaities are the same, You get laaities and you get laaities. I will help any fellow cyclist i pass that needs help. But for him not to return your stuff. That's low

My sani2C partner commented that he does not need any spares as I carry anyway..

I made him buy his own, cheapskate...

We did something like this at Sani. I carried the medical kit and my son the spares kit. Forces us to stick together.

Do you stop and ask them if they had spares to start with?

I went a long spell on the road without a puncture until saturday.   Ten kays in first puncture, and then forty kays later another one.  I only had one spare tube and was super grateful for the help when I punctured the second time. Made it home after doing 120km and punctured again just outside my house.  (I later found a microscopic sliver of glass in my tyre)

I suppose we all have those really sucky days when we need a little help, that is why club rides are awesome.  Then we discuss terms of repayment over coffee at the end of a ride. :)

As per a previous topic , this is more of a grumble than a rant .

So this past Sunday I raced the Menlyn Land Rover MTB race in Garsfontien .

There were 4 youngsters (20 somethings) ahead of myself and a guy named Casper .

At about the 35 k mark we catch one of these youngsters who has punctured , but is carrying NO spares .

He asks for help so I give him my spares kit compromising 2 bombs , bomb adaptor , choob , tyre levers and a spare link .

He says thanks , will see me at the end and return my stuff . I say cool .

Now , i presume he carries NO spares cause he knows some kind old masters cat rider will help him out . So he can ride his 9.5kg bike no worries .

About 5 km from the end , we hit the technical single track , where Casper (bliksem he is fast ) rides away from me . At about 4 km to go ..... yip you guessed it , I puncture .... Now I have nothing to fix the puncture with so walk/run to the end , losing 15 minutes and my 1st place in the masters category .

Ya I was a bit p...ed off , but it was my decision to help the chap .

So now , am I wrong to feel that I will NEVER help someone again , unless they have used up all their OWN bombs , tubes etc .

By the way , I never saw this guy at the finish , and he didn't even have the courtesy to leave my stuff with the organisers......

Next time leave him to run, he will learn to carry spares...

Bigger gripe about that race was the amount of guys who cut out that last section of singletrack.

I see one lady already got DQ, but there are plenty strava routes not looking so lekker.

Fully agree, there was definitely a few guys that took the short cut bypassing the nice new single track section.
