I have spoken to cyclelab about the servicing of the fork and apparently the new fork is more durable and doesnt need to be serviced as often as the forks on the 2016 models and earlier. I am not against paying for servicing but I would be servicing the "brain" every 6 weeks with the riding I do and this will add to the overall costs rapidly...

Cyclelab said with my mileage I should only have to service the Lefty only every 3,5 - 4 months on my mileage....

Consider yourself a lucky man if you can ride 25 hrs a week.

If you're comparing the 2017 options then I agree with Stefmeister, why are you comparing a trail bike with a XC racing bike? (Unless you meand the RC version of the Spark)

I am in the market for a new bike and have finally narrowed it down to these 2 bikes.

Scott Spark 910 or Cannondale Scalpel Si 3

They are similarly priced and have a very similar spec with the Cannondale have an XTR drivetrain over the XT for the Scott.

The main thing that puts me off the Cannondale is Lefty shock.. perhaps someone can give me positive feedback on it that will help me over come this. If it had a Fox fork my decision would be made already.

What I dont like about the Lefty shock is it limits your wheel options and I already have 2 sets of spare wheels.. but if I were to damage a wheel in a multistage race I think, could be wrong of course, it would be far easier to source a "normal" wheel than a Lefty wheel to continue.

Is there no twisitng of the fork under braking on the Lefty?

What I like about the Cannondale is the lifetime warranty on the frame, this is important to me seeming as every MTB I have had thus far I have had a claim on the frame for cracks. Spark only has a 5 year warranty which is ample because IMHO the lifespan of a MTB is about 5yrs.

I do long rides/races and multiday events. So want a bike that is easy to handle and comfortable for long distances. The Cannondale I think is more of a 1 day racer but I could be wrong?

I am a heavy rider - current weight is 98kgs although trying to get to 90kgs but cant see myself ever going below this....

Just bare in mind that you cant use your existing spare wheels as both bikes now run Boost on the front and rear hubs meaning your wheels will be too narrow to fit in the stays and fork  The lefty has to be one of the best fork systems in the world, very reliable if looked after with outstanding comfort and performance. I would go Cannondale in that price range. Only time I would take the Scott is if its the 900RC WC

What does a fork service cost? Because if it is affordable this would be the selling point for me.

Also do you know if it is done in-house or does it need to be sent away?

I would prefer the RC with the 100mm travel, which is also why I originally compared it to the Epic but i dont like the brain on the Epic, so I am comparing like for like but I only noticed today that the RC only comes in 1x11..... .

The Camber expert is 80k where as the Spark 910 is 69k and the Scalpel is 67k. I can get a further 10% discount on the Spark and Scalpel thus making the pricing very different between the 2 and value for money definitely does play a part.

Read up on the new 2spring that now comes standard on the 2017 lefty 2.0 .....improves the lefty in all aspects and the service intervals .....

Some components of the Service you can do yourself.

The New Lefties are not as maintenance intensive as the old ones.

Depending on your LBS it will be sent to Omnico or some of them can do it themselves.

There are a couple of specialist fork service guys here on the hub who also do a good job of servicing Lefties.

Not sure of the current costs but my last service was no more than what a normal fork would cost.
